Out on farm at Omahanui

Rhys and Pen opening the gates to share a system they’ve been shaping over time, from its roots as a forestry block to a thriving 140ha farm with 100ha effective.

Ali and Nick out connecting, observing and continuing to build a picture of what’s happening beneath the surface as part of the Rere ki uta rere ki tai - Living Soil Project.

Omahanui is run as a once-a-day system, something Rhys & Pen have committed to for over 11 years. It’s a true family operation, balanced alongside their passion for horses and time spent off farm at events.
What really stands out is the pride in their animals. A unique Friesian x Abondance herd, bringing together performance and resilience, and they are a pretty special sight.

Across the farm, pastures are in varying stages of diversity, reflecting a willingness to explore, adapt and evolve.

It’s all part of building a clearer picture of how different systems, histories and decisions influence outcomes over time, something at the heart of this kaupapa.
Watch the recap to see it in action.
