Charlie’s story - Taking a chance, persistence, and the excitement of landing a first job.
From work experience to my first paid job!
Before coming to Gr8 Job Hauraki, Charlie had only had work experience. She was keen to find her first paid job, but like many young people, found the current job market challenging and wasn’t quite sure where to start.
Sometimes you just have to put yourself out there.
Charlie applied for two jobs and was lucky enough to hear back from one. After her interview, she waited three weeks without hearing anything and had almost forgotten about it… until the call came through with the good news –she’d got the job!
The Turning Point
“I finally had a job!”
Getting the news brought a mix of excitement and nerves – but most importantly, Charlie had landed her first paid job. A pretty big milestone and the start of a whole new chapter.
New job. New skills. New goals.
Working graveyard shifts suits Charlies night-owl nature, and she’s already looking ahead. With further training and skill development on the way, she’s also working hard and saving towards her own transport.
Her Message
“Take every opportunity that is offered to get job ready and make job applications.”
You don’t have to have it all figured out. Sometimes the first step is simply giving something a go, putting in an application and being open to opportunities.
Charlies first job is now her first step towards what comes next.
