The month of July saw five tamariki off to school! Our local school Oxford Area does two cohort entries per school term now and we see groups going to school with their friends which makes it an extra special transition. We wish all our leavers happy school days. At Kindy we enjoyed celebrating Matariki, tamariki made soup and star cookies for our whānau evening and we entered the community Matariki lights competition and won first prize!
July has been ‘plastic free’ encouraging waste free lunchboxes and replacing plastic wrap packets with pottles we also looked at the effect of plastic in the ocean revisiting a theme from sea week.
Oxford Kindy has also been hosting a student Kaiako from NZTC we have so enjoyed having Lacey with us and it will be sad to see her go but we wish her all the very best with her studies going forward. Oxford Kindy love to support the future generation of Kaiako 🤗
Gosh quite a busy month !

May and June have flown! What did we get up to? May was music month and we listened to our favourite songs, danced and made our own musical instruments. International Bee day was celebrated with our very own kaiako Annemarieke being a bee keeper. She showed us a hive, bee suits and tools of the trade. Bike saftey week followed when we turned the carpark at Kindy into a mini road complete with zebra crossing, sneaky driveways and a stop/go sign. June saw a celebratio of Oxford’s very own observatory, located at Oxford Area School this asset to our community has been going 20 years. We focused on Space as a theme learning the planet names and making rockets. To complete the month of June we planted winter veggies in our garden. Phew! Always something to do at Oxford Kindy🤗

Highlights from April at Oxford Kindy. We celebrated all things Easter enjoying Easter art and craft as well as stories and creating an Easter basket. Our annual AP show was held in Oxford and we created sand saucer gardens! During the school holidays we enjoyed themed days at kindy and our favourite was Dinosaur day, we went to the local woodland reserve to go on a dinosaur hunt! We also visited Kaiako Marta’s house to look for acorns and pinecones. Autumn is here with beautiful reds, oranges, yellows and deep green, we love the colours of Autumn. We observed ANZAC Day with stories, the last post and the National Anthem along with some tasty ANZAC biscuits and the story behind those. And suddenly we are in May already!
