🏀 FINAL GAME: Mangakotukutuku College U20s vs. Ōtorohanga College U16s 🏀

What an incredible final game between Mangakotukutuku U20s and Oto College U16s. Final score 84-61 to Mangakotukutuku but the young Ōtorohanga College team showed great heart, determination and fighting spirit throughout the game. They played with pride and represented the college brilliantly, taking on the older U20 side with courage, resilience and teamwork. 👏

Well done to our Oto College U16s team for an outstanding effort. A great game, a great experience and a fantastic opportunity for our young players to grow. 🏀🔥

And a very special birthday shoutout to Coach Kane 🎉🎂 Thank you for your leadership and dedication to our rangatahi.

A little while back our College A Netballers travelled over to Matamata to take on their top side. Coached by former Silver Fern Casey Kopua, Matamata edged out Ōtorohanga College by a few goals. Was a great hit out for the girls and good to mix with NZ Netball royalty. The girls’ focus shifts towards tournament week coming up soon.

⚽️ Girls Football Match Report

An absolute bluebird stunner of a day met the Girls team for their fixture at home vs Te Awamutu.

The girls were strong from the first whistle and in a real sense of déjà vu, were really equally matched by the visiting side.
The girls came to play and our midfield shovelled some very clean ball forward to our strikers resulting in first blood again, drawn by Khloe before the first 10 minutes had run.
Straight from the restart the visiting team found another gear and eventually found space to bring the score to 1 all.

We ran into halftime positive but reflected on our first half, and were honest with our “work ons”.
The remaining half was a fantastic game with all of the team doubling down on intensity and hunger. Our midfield was absolutely everywhere and really found their groove. Our strikers were hungry and the pressure on the opposition's defence was immense. This was not a one sided game though. The visitors came to play, and when opportunity came were relentless on attack. However the absolute juggernaut that is our defensive line and our rockstar goalie, Moana, meant the net was off limits for TA in the second half.

The last 10 minutes we set up camp (reminiscent of last week) in the opposition's half but couldn't quite turn the position into the elusive winning point…
So a hard fought draw at the final whistle.

🏀 FINALS BOUND🏀

What a performance from our Senior Boys Basketball team🔥

The boys travelled to Cambridge last night for a tough semi final clash against a quality Ngāruawāhia side. In a fast paced and hard fought contest, both teams showed plenty of skill, determination and grit.

When it mattered most, our boys stood tall, securing an outstanding 53 to 48 victory and punching their ticket to the FINAL💪

An awesome team effort and a performance the whole college can be proud of.

Congratulations boys. One more game to go. Let’s bring it home! 🏆

⚽️ Girls Football Report by Rex Fare

Soggy underfoot, (wet and freezing) led to an early start on this morning’s game vs Thames.

The girls dominated early and forwards ran some superb support, ending with Khloe finding the net on a magic pass by Hannah.

The team was just as solid on defence, and had to be as they were matched in intensity by the visiting team who levelled up shortly after.

Wet conditions meant things got a little messy with penalties for and against the home team but we held strong and after a solid mids and forwards attack Khloe doubled down with a second before halftime.

Morale was high at half time and as the weather cleared Thames came out swinging and levelled up early in the second half. Both teams upped the tempo of the game and the 2nd half was a hard running tit for tat, gritty affair with Thames eventually taking the lead late in the 2nd half.

The last 10 minutes was an absolute grind as we camped in the opposition half. Even with Jasmine’s boot on corner kicks and a barrage of throw-ins in the final minutes the team couldn’t quite breach the opposition’s defence.

At the final whistle 3-2 to Thames.

However the score line didn’t reflect the raw effort the whole team committed but perhaps how evenly matched the teams were.

The team didn’t announce a POD as they were too busy eating. So I picked Gemma for securing enough pizza to feed a small country. 😊 ⚽️
