We will remember them.
We spent this week at Otaki Montessori learning about Anzac day. Tamariki planted some Poppy flowers, read pukapuka (books) and did a range of art and sensory mahi.

Happy Easter from Otaki Montessori!

Our tamariki have been busy at mahi, celebrating Easter. We have enjoyed doing lots of mahi toi (art) and crafts, Easter games, and of course some Easter Hunts :)

Kia ora whānau,
This week in the Tuī rūma we have been celebrating and exploring sea week!
Ngā tamariki have enjoyed reading many pukapuka, learning all about different parts of the Moana and the creatures within it. We read a pukapuka called “Tangaroas gift”, bringing it to life through art creating Paua shells and Tangaroa, Atua of the sea. These have formed a beautiful display in our room for tamariki to revisit their learning.

Kia ora whānau,
The last few weeks have been full of fun and exploring our moana for the tamariki in the Tuī rūma as many tamariki spent their summer holiday swimming or doing water activities. Ngā tamariki have loved using shells and driftwood in various experiences for open ended play, including having our own Montessori beach set up! We have also explored sunflowers, insects and so much more!

Tamariki have also been spending lots of time setting up and expanding on obstacle courses where they are challenging their physical skills, climbing, crawling, balancing and jumping and learning their own boundaries as well as others.

We celebrated Seaweek this week in Kereru Ruma. Tamariki enjoyed various ocean activities, such as ocean and jellyfish painting, sensory play, waiata and stories. Tamariki learned about diverse sea creatures living in the ocean in Aotearoa through Montessori language activities and games at mat time. They also learned how to protect them through listening to a story.

Kia Ora e te whānau,

This week our Kereru tamariki have enjoyed tending to our mara kai, helping to plant some new kai like carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. Tamariki have also enjoyed observing our mara kai, and take part in continued mahi to look after our environment, helping to water our plants and kai, and clean and nurture our environment. Tamariki have also enjoyed discovering cicada shells in our environment and sharing these discoveries with Kaiako and peers.

Tamariki are learning to be great Kaitiaki of their environment, and learn more about their natural world.
