🪞MIRRORING LOVE🪞

From turning the pages of a book to gently cradling a doll, our tamariki are always observing the world around them!

Imitation is one of the most powerful tools in early childhood development. Long before young pēpi start talking, they are expert observers. They watch closely as their parents, whānau and kaiako open books, show kindness and nurture those around them, taking it all in and practicing it themselves.

When you see a child "reading" or tenderly rocking a baby doll, you are seeing a beautiful reflection of the loving, attentive behavior modeled for them every single day.

Through these mirrored moments, tamariki process social cues, practice empathy and build key skills that lay the foundation for lifelong growth.

🍊NATURE'S GIFTS🍊

Who knew squeezing tangelos could be so much fun? Thanks to one of our teachers, Tracy, for bringing in this delicious gift from her garden. From squeezing to sipping, there was plenty of questions, curiosity, conversation, and happy faces.

🏆WORLD CUP WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT🏆

A big thank you to all our wonderful whānau who joined in the fun and took part in our FIFA World Cup guessing game!

Since our tamariki are a little too young to be sports analysts just yet, we know who was REALLY making the big decisions behind the scenes! High fives all around to the parents who called it right!

🥣 RECIPE OF THE MONTH 🥣

We know so many of our whānau comment on the delicious kai that our amazing nutritionist, Sheree, prepares for ngā tamariki at Educare Orewa each day. We thought we'd introduce a 'recipe of the month' and share some of the children's firm favourite dishes and treats with you.

We truly are blessed to have such an innovative and talented cook creating nutritious, wholesome, and absolutely scrumptious meals for our tamariki.

Today, ngā tamariki enjoyed lovely bowls of warm pumpkin soup with homemade bread for lunch. This is the very same recipe that was such a hit at our recent Matariki whānau evening.

We thought we'd share this recipe as the first one with you so you can enjoy making it at home with your own whānau. We hope you love it as much as we do. Enjoy! 🧡

☀️🌈 LIGHT, COLOUR & DISCOVERY ☀️🌈

Today our tamariki explored transparent coloured blocks in the sunshine, experimenting with shapes, colourful shadows and colour mixing. As they layered the blocks, they were excited to discover new colours and patterns created by the light.

The children also noticed that when they used their bodies to block the sunlight, the shadows changed and moved with them, leading to lots of curiosity, laughter and investigation.

Through this hands-on experience, our tamariki were developing early scientific thinking while exploring the world around them. Our curriculum, Te Whāriki, supports learning through play and encourages curiosity, creativity and confidence as children make sense of their environment.

💚🌿 Growing hearts that care for our world 🌿💚

This week ngā tamariki have been exploring what it means to be kaitiaki (guardians) of Papatūānuku (Mother Earth) through meaningful, hands-on experiences. From carefully watering and nurturing our plants to discovering a tiny baby praying mantis in our garden, every moment has sparked curiosity, wonder and respect for the natural world.

These experiences encourage children to slow down, observe, ask questions and develop an appreciation for the living things that share our environment. By caring for nature, our tamariki are learning that even the smallest actions can make a positive difference.

Through everyday moments like these, we are nurturing a lifelong connection with the environment and supporting children to grow as confident, caring kaitiaki of Papatūānuku.

✨️ THE MAGIC OF PLAY DOUGH ✨️

Have you ever wondered why play dough is a staple in our centre? It looks like simple fun but every squeeze, roll and squash is a massive workout for growing minds and bodies!

When ngā tamariki play with play dough, they are:

● Poking, squeezing and rolling the dough to develop strong hands and fingers for writing and drawing.
● Chatting and storytelling as they share their ideas and make unique creations, building their vocabulary.
● Sharing their space and tools, learning how to take turns and play alongside friends.
● Squashing and pounding the dough which is a wonderful, calming sensory experience and a way to unwind and focus.
