Established in Hawke's Bay in 1989 with our Napier and Whangarei training venues providing theory and practical pre-trade training at Level 3 and Level 2. From offices based in Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Napier we also provide support to in-work apprentices to assist them in completing their NZ Certificate in Carpentry L4. We provide training pathways between school and indus

try for a range of learners. Some come as school leavers, some come to retrain in a new industry, some with low or no qualifications come to learn new valuable life and trade skills, and some study with us while they are employed or completing apprenticeships.

Current Learners -
From Thursday 9th September G&H venues, in Alert Level 2 areas, will reopen for students and apprentices to attend. Our venues will follow Ministry of Education guidelines in relation to Contact Tracing & Public Health measures such as mask wearing, social distancing and other hygiene recommendations. Please follow your G&H Tutor’s directions in relation to such matters.

For those of you in the Alert Level 4 areas unfortunately nothing changes for you. Your coordinator remains available to actively support you while you remain in in your lockdown bubble. If you have not been contacted by your coordinator please email your name and contact details to [email protected] and your coordinator will contact you directly.

Looking to enrol in Napier or Whangarei –
We have places available on both our building programmes with enrolments to recommence at Alert Level 2. If you have not yet requested an information pack please call us on 0800 876 4664 or email [email protected] and we will get one to you.

Napier Level 3 Trainees are working on a new framing exercise. The structure takes shape pretty quickly once the frames are made. The learnings out of this include -
• working out the quantities of materials required & ordering from suppliers
• fundamentals of framing
• levelling, plumb bobbing & squaring the framing
• cladding and working at height with NZ Safety approved mobile scaffold

The next small build is underway at the Napier branch. The Level 2 Trainees get a chance to put into practice their learnings on the fundamentals of wall framing, subflooring, cladding, working at height using NZ Safety approved mobile scaffold. Next they will be the installing the door, window with further at height work being done when the roofing and flashings go on. Looking forward to the BBQ Shout when all finished!

UPDATE: COVID-19

At G&H, the health and well being of our students and staff is our priority. We need to ensure we are doing what we can to avoid the spread of this virus.

At this stage, teaching and learning at G&H will continue as normal, but we will continue to monitor this, under the guidelines of the government and health authorities.

In the meantime, please ensure you maintain high hygiene standards including washing your hands regularly with soap. Use hand sanitiser when out and about. Do not come to class if you are unwell and avoid large gatherings. If you have been overseas recently you must self-isolate for 14 days.

Lets all do our bit to ensure we stop the spread of this virus.
