What an epic day we’ve had at ŌPS!

🌼 Daffodil Day – we’ve collectively raised an awesome $542! Thank you so much to everyone who supported us and helped make that happen.

Roger, Ted and Web came to visit! Amber brought her lambs along and the kids absolutely loved feeding them and learning all about them. Such a cool experience!

Electives – we had our third afternoon of electives today and there was plenty going on across the school. Lots of happy kids, trying new things and having fun.

We also said farewell to our Takigawa friends today. A huge thank you to their classes for making them feel so welcome during their time at ŌPS, and to their wonderful host families for looking after them and making them part of their families. We’ll miss having them around!

A busy day full of excitement, learning, laughs and plenty of smiles. What lucky students we have! ❤️

🎶 Our school choir is ready to take the stage! 🎶

We have 48 talented students who have been working hard, learning a range of songs in preparation for their performance at Baycourt on Monday night.

Our students will join choirs from other schools to perform a fantastic selection of songs, as well as performing some songs that are uniquely their own. We are especially proud to have two of our students, Elle and Ella-Sofia, selected as soloists for the evening. What a fantastic achievement!

A huge thank you to the incredibly talented Mrs Cresswell for leading our students and inspiring them throughout their preparation.

We are very proud of all 48 students and can’t wait to see them up on stage on Monday night, representing our school. Go ŌPS Choir! 🎤🎶💙

Council Community Events:
Welcoming Week is a time to showcase and celebrate how communities across Aotearoa New Zealand are working to be more welcoming places for all. It provides an opportunity to celebrate our welcoming values through local events and initiatives. It is a time to show whanaungatanga (the importance of relationships) and manaakitanga (the value of extending hospitality and caring for other people).

From 2pm-4pm tomorrow, NZ Uniforms is hosting a Pop-up event so parents can swap faulty hoodies and sweatshirts. This will be located in the Old School House.

You can swap your affected item like for like (same size and style as you purchased). If you are unable to attend on this day, you will be able to swap the garment in-store.

When you come to swap the item, please ensure:
* The garment is washed and clean when returned.
* You provide either:
*The phone number used when the garment was purchased or
*invoice number relating to the purchase.

These items are not going to landfill, they will be recycled. To assist with this process, please ensure all items are washed and clean. To help you make sure the items are clean, students who have an affected hoodie/sweatshirt can wear an alternative hoodie/sweatshirt tomorrow, allowing you to wash it or keep it clean after your weekend laundry.

I suggest you look carefully at your child's hoodie/sweatshirt, as some look fine until you examine the printed name on the back closely. If it is showing signs of cracking, please take it to be replaced, as this is the first stage of the name coming off. This way, they will last several years and hopefully several children and still look great.

Postponement of Tonight’s School Disco

Unfortunately, we’ve made the decision to postpone tonight’s school disco.

We currently have many staff and students away sick with influenza. We have been closely monitoring the situation, and absences have continued to increase this week. Numbers are significantly higher than we would normally see at this time of year and reflect the wider increase in influenza (and other illnesses) in our community.

Our priority must be the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and students. With such a high number of people currently unwell, we feel that bringing a large number of students together in an enclosed, poorly ventilated space would be irresponsible at this time.

We know this will be disappointing for our students, especially with such short notice, and we apologies for the inconvenience to families.

We’re planning to reschedule the disco for Friday 30 October and will share more details closer to the time.

Thanks for your understanding and support as we work to minimise the spread of illness and keep our school community as healthy as possible.

Ākonga from Room 9 and Room 10 were excited to contribute to a special community art project led by Hawkins Construction, who are building Te Kōti Matua me Te Kōti ā Rohe o Tauranga—the new High and District Court in Tauranga CBD.
