Ōmata School We are a Y0-8 school with approximately 210 students. Our school offers quality education in a caring learning environment.

We have a proud tradition as a community school and our reputation is based around a very successful partnership with families. We have an active ‘Open Door’ policy which encourages parents into classrooms and around the school at all times and I urge you to take the opportunity to become involved. We have a stunning physical environment which includes a well established native bush with an outdoo

r classroom area and outstanding playground facilities. A very special feature of our school is the continuity of education we provide for children from Year 1 to Year 8. Our doors are always open to discuss any facet of your child’s education.

As part of our science curriculum, Ōmata School has been making great use of the ‘House of Science’ resource kits. Much like a library, we are able to borrow a wide range of science kits, giving our students the opportunity to explore different areas of science through engaging, hands-on activities and experiments.

Our Ruma Tūī tamariki enjoyed a wonderful visit to the art gallery, where they explored how sound is an important part of the natural world. The experience extended their learning about New Zealand birds and the predators that threaten them.

Back in the gallery classroom, the students created a special diorama representing the beautiful environment of Rotokare Reserve. Inside each box, they made the forest floor and the native animals that call it home. Around the outside, they added the footprints of introduced predators before crossing them out in red to symbolise the important work being done to protect our precious wildlife.

A fantastic hands-on learning experience that combined art, science, and conservation!
