Year 11–13 Student-Led Conferences - Tuesday 25 August | 2:15pm–5:00pm

Kia ora,
We are looking forward to seeing you this afternoon - Tuesday 25 August | 2:15pm–5:00pm

This will be a little different from a traditional parent-teacher interview. Our students will lead the conversation about their learning. They have been preparing their Student-Led Ako Conference Report, which they will use to share their progress, achievements, goals and next steps with you.

There is no need to book an appointment. All staff will be based in the school hall from 2:15pm–5:00pm and will be available to meet with you and support the conversation. This is a drop in session, you do not need to stay the entire time.

This is also an opportunity to:

Talk with staff about your young person’s learning and progress
Discuss NCEA goals and next steps
Explore WITT opportunities for 2027
Talk about pathway and career plans for the future
We encourage whānau to come along, listen to your young person share their learning, celebrate their successes and be part of planning their next steps.

Kia ora koutou katoa,

A huge thank you and mihi to everyone who contributed to such an outstanding Cross Country today. It was a fantastic kura event – fast-paced, incredibly well organised, and made even better by the weather holding out beautifully for us!
A very special thank you to Matua Keegan / Mr Bruckner for the significant organisation and preparation that went into making the day run so smoothly, and to Whaea Sarah / Mrs Oke, as Deputy Principal Y7-13, for her leadership and support throughout the event.

A special acknowledgement also to our rangatira | student leaders, who stepped up and assisted across all areas of organisation throughout the day. It was wonderful to see our secondary students taking genuine responsibility, leading alongside staff, helping the event run smoothly, and modelling ako and manaakitanga through service and leadership for others across our kura. Their contribution was significant and something they can be very proud of.

Thank you also to all of our staff who contributed in so many ways – preparing and packing down equipment, marshalling, crowd control, timing, supporting and encouraging our tamariki mokopuna and rangatahi, and simply stepping in wherever needed. I also want to acknowledge those staff who remained at kura to supervise and support the students who were unable to attend. Every role contributed to the success of the day.

A particular acknowledgement to FOCTS (Friends of Coastal Taranaki School) for their outstanding oversight, organisation and support throughout the event. Your contribution was significant and greatly appreciated - including the ice blocks at the end of each race!

And finally, a heartfelt thank you to all of our parents, whānau and community volunteers and spectators who gave their time, lent a hand and came along to support our students. Having our wider community alongside us made the day particularly special.

Today was a wonderful reflection of our uara in action – Whanaungatanga | Collaborate and Connect, through the collective effort of our kura and community; Ako | Learn and Empower, as our students challenged themselves and one another; and Manaakitanga | Care and Support, evident in the encouragement, teamwork and care shown throughout the day.

It was an outstanding day for everyone involved and another great example of what can be achieved when our kura, whānau and community work together. Mā te whānau te tamaiti e puāwai | Through collaboration our learners will thrive.

Tēnei te mihi aroha atu ki a koutou katoa. Thank you for making today such a success.

Pet Day Information

Cross Country – Tuesday 25 August
Our Cross Country is coming up tomorrow! A rough race schedule is included below to help parents and whānau plan when they would like to come along and support their children.

A few reminders:
M***i: Students can wear comfortable mufti/activewear for the day — no school uniform required.
Change of clothes: Students who are running are encouraged to bring a change of clothes, as the course may be muddy or wet.
Footwear: Suitable running shoes are recommended, but students can run without them at their own risk!
Parent help: A huge thank you to the parents and whānau who have volunteered to be field marshals. We really appreciate your support and will be in contact shortly about our plan for tomorrow.
It is fantastic to see our students getting involved in events like this. Strong student participation helps create a great atmosphere, builds school spirit and allows our school to represent ourselves proudly to the wider community. We encourage all students to get involved and give it a go!

School Cross Country – Tuesday 25 August
We are looking forward to our School Cross Country on Tuesday 25 August - 11:30am at Ōkato Domain.

A few things to help students be prepared:

Clothing: Comfortable active clothing with warm layers. Students do not need to wear school uniform. A change of clothes is recommended as the course may be wet and muddy.
Footwear: Please ensure students wear suitable running shoes. Although not compulsory, it is recommended. Students can run in bare feet at their own risk!
Food & drink: Please provide a water bottle and a healthy snack for before/after their race.
Walking: Students will walk to and from Ōkato Domain with their teachers.
Supervision: Students will remain with their teachers before and after their race. Please avoid calling students over from their group during the event. If you would like to congratulate your child, please do so in the designated spectator area shown on the attached map.
The event will involve a 2km course across farmland and along part of the Stony River (Hangatahua) Walkway, so students should come prepared for outdoor conditions.

Parent & Whānau Help
We are still looking for parent/whānau volunteers to help as field marshals around the course. If you are available to lend a hand, please contact Alana in the school office.

If weather conditions are unsuitable, we will make a decision about postponement by 9am on Tuesday. Please keep an eye on HELIX and our page for any updates. A race schedule will be posted on Monday.

On Tuesday, our Years 9-13 students attended the annual Taranaki Careers Expo at TSB Stadium.
This was a fantastic opportunity for akonga to network with pathway experts from across New Zealand. Industry experts and educational providers were on hand to inform and engage with our tamariki about possible educational and career prospects.

We've had great feedback about how mature and well mannered our seniors were yesterday morning.
They represented our kura with pride. Ka pai, Years 9-13!
