Awesome effort, Billy, on winning round two of the Southland Interschool Speech Competition in Invercargill this week with his speech about how he learns WAY more out fishing than he does at school! Also, congratulations to Archie and Nico, who were both placed third in their respective age groups. Billy will now represent the school at the Invercargill Final early next month.

Learning about money and numbers at the Stewart Island Four Square. Ackers tamariki got a look behind the counter and out the back as we developed our understanding about the value of money and what it can buy. Cheapest item - one brown onion. Then some quick times tables figuring out how many bags of coal are on a pallet, reading negative numbers on the freezer and estimating how many items are stocked in the shop. Lots of learning out in the community.

Winter camp 2026 at Port William with Ackers - Years 0-4. Perseverance - walking 8km to Lee Bay. Adventure - staying overnight, seeing dolphins, fishing, playing spotlight in the dark. Respect - putting the little fish back, keeping bags tidy, helping to set rat traps, being quiet at bedtime. Teamwork - encouraging friends to try new things, staying together, eating shared kai. Kai pai tamariki on the best camp, thank you to parents who came and helped, Rakiura Charters for the water taxi in and DOC for the hut overnight.
