FIEFIA NIGHT 2026

What an incredible evening at the North Otago Fiefia Night last Thursday! It was a vibrant celebration filled with cultural pride, energy, and fun.

We are so proud of our tamariki, who brought so much alofa and energy to the stage. Their performance was outstanding and gave us a fantastic sneak peek of what is to come at Polyfest next week!

A HUGE mālō ʻaupito and faʻafetai lava to everyone involved. Your mahi, tireless efforts, and commitment make events like this so special. We are deeply grateful to our passionate staff, whānau, and community for all your support.

Celebrating Tongan Language Week at WGHS

The photo below was taken when we were honoured to be invited to attend a special assembly to open Tongan Language Week at WGHS.

Our students were privileged to hear words of encouragement and wisdom from the Honourable MP Fane Faituafe, the first female to sit in Parliament in Tonga.

She spoke so passionately about the importance of education, honouring your upbringing, staying true to your values, and never forgetting your cultural heritage. Her message was a powerful reminder that knowing where we come from helps shape who we are and where we are going.

Another successful day for the school chess team. Chess Power staged an Aoraki-wide event at St Kevin's with 15 OIS students entered. Both teams won awards.
Charlee Reynolds-Gilbert was awarded best female player.
Boe Berry topped the tournament individually, while Marlow Kruskopf and Dristan Ala also made the top four.
These three, as well as Connor Thompson we awarded medals for best team of four.
