Yesterday, we had a very special visitor at kindergarten - a beautiful pet lamb! 🐑 Our tamariki were absolutely delighted to meet our fluffy friend, and some of our learners even had the opportunity to bottle-feed him. It was wonderful to see their excitement, gentleness and care as they carefully looked after our little visitor. Moments like these provide such meaningful opportunities for our tamariki to connect with animals, learn about caring for living things, and share special experiences with one another. A huge thank you to our whānau for bringing in the lamb and giving us such a memorable experience! 💛🐑

🔨🪵 Little Hands, Big Discoveries 🪵🔨

At our kindy, we love giving children the opportunity to explore, create, and learn through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Our carpentry area is a place where children can get stuck in with real tools and materials such as hammers, nails, wood, and saws, with the support and guidance of our kaiako.

These experiences are full of learning - children are developing confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills, coordination, and the ability to persevere when things don’t go quite to plan.

By using real tools in a safe and respectful way, children learn to be responsible, make choices, and recognise just how capable they are.

We love seeing the concentration, curiosity, and big smiles that come from these special moments of learning. 🧡🔨

✨ Celebrating Puanga at Kindergarten ✨

This week, we took time to acknowledge and celebrate Puanga, a special time of reflection, connection, and new beginnings. The children explored the significance of Puanga and Matariki, learning about the importance of it and looking forward to the year ahead.

The tamariki enjoyed creating their own beautiful Puanga stars using salt dough, sharing their creativity and ideas while learning about the meaning and traditions connected to this special time.

Through conversations, hands-on experiences, and shared learning, we continue to nurture our children’s understanding of te ao Māori and the rich cultural practices that are part of our kindergarten community.

A wonderful celebration of connection, whānau, and new beginnings. ⭐

Earlier this year, we were gifted a large pumpkin for our learners to observe. As it wasn't edible, it became a wonderful opportunity to watch how nature changes over time.

As the pumpkin began to age, our curious learners decided it was time to investigate what was happening inside. Together, we carefully cut it open, explored its seeds and textures, and asked lots of thoughtful questions.

To finish our learning experience, we returned the pumpkin to nature by feeding it to our compost and worm farm—helping nourish the earth for the future.

🌳Our forest area provides our tamariki with endless opportunities to explore, create, and learn through nature. Using loose parts such as tree branches and wooden planks, they build, problem-solve, and bring their imaginative ideas to life.

It's amazing to see how the simplest natural materials inspire such creativity, collaboration, and curiosity. These small moments remind us just how capable and imaginative our learners truly are☀️

While the rainy weather has been making its presence known lately, it certainly hasn't dampened our learners' enthusiasm for exploring and discovering! 🌧️✨

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a spacious covered outdoor learning environment, allowing our tamariki to continue enjoying meaningful outdoor experiences regardless of the weather. From imaginative play to hands-on exploration, there are always opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun.

Pajama Day at Kindy was a huge hit with our tamariki! A big thank you to all our whānau for helping with the kai and making the day so special. What a cosy way to spend a rainy winter's day! We started the morning with a delicious breakfast of pikelets, berries, yoghurt, and Milo, and enjoyed a warm, relaxed day together.

Today, our learners were lucky enough to welcome Sasha (George’s mum) to kindy to share her knowledge about the importance of oral hygiene and keeping our teeth healthy. Sasha talked about the importance of brushing our teeth twice a day, making healthy food choices, and visiting the dentist regularly to help keep our smiles strong and healthy.

Our Kindy children learnt about the things that make our teeth happy, such as brushing, drinking water, and eating healthy foods, as well as the things that can make our teeth sad, including too many sugary treats and forgetting to brush. Sasha also explained what happens during a visit to the dentist, helping our children to feel more confident and familiar with the experience.

Our learners then had the opportunity to extend their learning through a range of hands-on dentist-themed activities, where they explored and practised caring for teeth through play.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Sasha for taking the time to visit us and share her profession, knowledge, and experiences with our learners. We truly appreciated the valuable learning opportunity she provided for our tamariki.

A huge thank you to Te Tōpuni Kōkōrangi and the Taranaki Kiwi Trust for inviting us to such a special kiwi release event at Taranaki Mounga last week.

It was a truly memorable experience, and our tamariki absolutely loved being part of something so meaningful. We especially enjoyed forming a circle and having the opportunity to see the kiwi up close — it was such a special moment that created a real sense of connection for everyone involved.
