PLEASE READ AND EMAIL THE FOLLOWING GOVT MINISTERS TODAY!!
Dear, Mum's, Dads, Teachers ,Tutors, Speech Language Therapists and anyone who will listen.
PLEASE READ - Business as Usual is NOT acceptable.
We have a voice and it's time it was heard as a group. The article on Monday had me buying a bottle of wine and pouring a glass to celebrate. Before I could the finish the glass the bad news was in. "NO U TURN"
"BUSINESS AS USUAL". I was, and I still am, angry, but now I want to do something about it, and I want you to join me.
As a group WE CAN get them to listen - we might just get them to hear us. Together we will be louder and clearer. I propose that we email Barclay Anstiss from the MoE , Chris Hipkins ,Tracey Martin and Jacinda Arden from the government on Monday 26th of August, exactly a week after the article came out. If we all email them on the same day, they will see we want change.
Lets ask them WHY? It's time we got some answers.
WHY are you not providing an education for all children?
WHY is it that 15-20% of children fail each year in literacy and this is acceptable?
WHY are you not listening to your MoE report by Massey University that confirms a systematic phonics approach is the way to go?
WHY are you not listening to the rest of the world that has recognised Balanced Literacy is doing more harm than good?
WHY are New Zealand teachers not provided with professional learning opportunities that align current evidence practices and the Science of Reading?
WHY don't we supply resources for teachers that align with the current research and evidence to cater to all learning needs and ensure an inclusive education model?
WHY DON'T YOU CARE?
WHY DON'T YOU HELP ?
You can keep your email short and sweet or you can even copy and past the above. You could write about your journey as a Parent, Teacher, Tutor or SLP. Watching your child happiness disappear in front of your eyes because they can't read as well as their peers, or its just to hard at school for them. Tell them no one understands our children. Tell them if things got so bad you have to home school because bad behaviour was their voice and still no one was listening . Tell them if your child got so anxious they wouldn't got to class or school.
It's time we told our stories and got someone to listen and to answer our WHY'S
