Hari huritau 8 taku tama ariki!
They told us before we even met you
that we should let you go.
So we gathered all our faith around you
and took it to the Lord.
I said, “Your will be done.”
And if I only get five minutes,I’d treasure them forever.
I held you for five minutes, then five minutes more.
Kua huri aua miniti ki te waru tau.
Eight years of birthdays,
of laughter, hard days, little wins, big ones,
and a whānau who argues ia rā over whose favourite you are.
Our tama ariki. Our beautiful boy.
Look how far you’ve come.
We don’t need to know what tomorrow holds.
We never have.
Just give us the next five minutes,you have all of us beside you, we have each other.
So here’s to eight years, my Mungzy,
and all the hope we carry for the years ahead.
Five minutes became a lifetime of loving you.
And when these five minutes are over,
we’ll do what we’ve always done.
Take the next five
and love you some more.
