As we count down to our Mangorei School Centenary this Labour Weekend, we’re loving hearing stories from former students and seeing the incredible paths they’ve taken.

This story features former student Courtney Johnston, now Chief Executive of Te Papa, who still has fond memories of her time at Mangorei School—including the unforgettable day a circus came to school and she had her photo taken with an elephant! 🐘

Tomorrow is Mid Year Discussion Hui day.

A friendly reminder that there are NO CLASSES TOMORROW (Friday 24th July). Your child(ren) comes along with you to talk to their teacher and then goes home again with you at the conclusion of your appointment.

The teaching staff look forward to catching up with you and your child(ren).

What a fantastic day celebrating Puanga! Together we enjoyed a house waiata competition, a special Puanga assembly, amazing kapa haka performances, tuakana teina time, and a delicious hāngī to finish the day.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration so special - our staff, students, whānau, volunteers, and everyone who contributed their time, energy, and support.

We wish all of our school community a safe, happy, and restful holiday break. Mānawatia a Matariki, and we look forward to seeing everyone back next term!

We have LOADS of potatoes and pumpkin left over that weren’t used for our hangi that is now in our Pata kai, Please feel free to take some home for your whanau. We really appreciate all of the food donations that helped make our hāngi happen!

A huge thank you to all of our amazing whānau who generously donated food for our hāngī on Friday. We can’t wait to celebrate with you, ngā mihi nui!

We had a cracker of a day for our last Interschool exchange yesterday, especially considering the weather for the original plan on Friday.

Our teams played valiantly - with SJB proving stronger in Football, Netball and Rugby. Our students showed grit throughout their games. Confirmed scores will be shared in a future newsletter.

Our fabulous Chess players held their own with excellent play - well done for winning your rounds.

Once again a huge thanks for the parent support and coaches!

The countdown is on to our exciting Puanga celebration!
Please see the timetable below for Friday's events. We'll be enjoying our hāngī together on the field, so you may like to bring a picnic blanket to sit on. If you missed out on placing a hāngī order, there may be leftovers available on the day, so bring a koha donation just in case! Families are welcome to take their children home after lunch. If you do, please remember to sign them out from their classroom before leaving.

Over this week you may see our Tino Rangatiratanga flag flying. This is in recognition of the Māori New Year. Matariki is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future with hope and purpose.
