Last night’s class was a great reminder that progress comes from consistency. One good session is nice, but showing up again and again is what really builds skill, confidence, and results.

Every round, every rep, and every class adds up over time. Some days feel big, some days feel small, but if you keep turning up and doing the work, it all compounds.

Proud of the group on the mats last night. Great people, good energy, and a solid room of people committed to getting better. That’s what consistency looks like.

Small team, big effort!

Yesterday we had a small team of 5 competitors travel to Kapiti for the summer scramble event. Super proud of everyone for representing the team and giving it their all on the mats. Great energy, solid performances, and lots learned.

Out of 33 teams who had competitors there yesterday, Battalion placed 3rd overall.

Solid results.

Onward to the next one.

Meet Skye and Riddick.

These two siblings are back on the road again this weekend, heading down to Kapiti to do what they do best—compete, learn, and give it everything they’ve got. The consistency they’ve shown turning up, training hard, and stepping out onto the mats all over the country has been awesome to watch.

They’re not doing it alone either—we’ve got a small team heading down with them, all ready to test themselves and represent the gym.

And of course, we can’t not mention the parents… at this point we’re convinced their car deserves a couple of medals. The amount of KMs they rack up chasing comps around the country is next level dedication.

Good luck to the whole team this weekend, the summer scramble competition in Kapiti is always great. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

(BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Brazilian jiu-jitsu was formed from early 20th century Kodokan Judo ground fighting (Ne-Waza) fundamentals that were taught to Carlos Gracie by master Mitsuyo Maeda. Brazilian jiu-jitsu eventually came to be its own art through the experimentations, practices, and adaptation from the Judo knowledge of Carlos who then passed their knowledge on to his extended family.

BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique, taking the fight to the ground – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring(commonly referred to as "rolling") and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition, in relation to progress and ascension through its ranking system.
