Our māra (vegetable garden) has had a fresh start! 🌱🌿

Tamariki rolled up their sleeves and worked together to care for our garden. We began by clearing away the old plants and weeds, making good use of our new compost bin so nothing went to waste. Then it was time to plant new seedlings, give them a good drink of water, and help them settle into their new home.

Our care for the environment doesn't stop there. Every day, our tamariki take their leftover kai scraps to feed our hei hei (chickens), and in return we collect the fresh eggs they lay. 🐔🥚

These hands-on experiences are all part of our Enviroschools journey, helping tamariki develop respect for the environment, understand where our food comes from, and learn that even small actions can make a big difference. We can't wait to watch our garden grow!

We're always excited to welcome Coach Liam from Playball to Brooklands Kindergarten! 🏃‍♀️⚽🏀

Playball is a fun pre-sport programme that helps children develop fundamental movement skills, ball skills, coordination, balance, and confidence through active play. The children love taking part in the engaging games and challenges while learning important skills they'll use for sport and everyday life.

Coach Liam visits us three times each term as part of our kindergarten programme, and it's always a highlight of the week!

Take a look at some of the fun we've been having! 😊

We had a fun day yesterday, coming to kindy with our teddies and in PJ's for our Pyjama Day. We snuggled up with stories with blankets and cushions, created dream catchers and cardboard pillow cases. At lunchtime we shared pumpkin soup - using up all of the remaining vegetables from our Puanga celebration.

We hope you've all had a wonderful week with your whānau. 💛

Enjoy looking back at these fun kindergarten moments...

We're looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Brooklands Kindergarten on Monday 20th. See you all soon! 🌿✨

✨ **Puanga Hākari 2026** ✨

What a beautiful evening we shared together celebrating the rising of **Puanga** and the beginning of the Māori New Year. 💙

Thank you to all of our wonderful whānau who joined us for our **Puanga Hākari**. It was a special opportunity to come together as a community, share delicious kai, strengthen connections, reflect on the past and look forward with hope to the year ahead.

🔥 Gathering around the firepit was a highlight of the evening. As we toasted marshmallows, shared our wishes with **Hiwa-i-te-Rangi**, and watched the first stars appear in the night sky, we were reminded of the importance of spending time together and creating lasting memories.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who contributed food, helped out, and made the evening such a success. We are so grateful to be part of such a caring and connected kindergarten community.

**Mānawatia a Puanga!** ✨

On Friday, we were incredibly grateful to receive this beautiful and thoughtful gift from one of our wonderful whānau. Their family has shared a special connection with Brooklands Kindergarten over the years, with two tamariki attending our kindergarten, and even their eldest daughter spending time with us as a Pathways student while she was at high school.

This stunning artwork was created by the children's talented aunty and features many familiar characters from Julia Donaldson's beloved storybooks. If you look closely, you'll also spot two children sitting together reading a book at the bottom of the artwork, a heartfelt tribute to their own tamariki, reminding us that they will always be part of our kindergarten story.

We will proudly display this special piece where it can be enjoyed by everyone. It means so much to be recognised for the relationships we build, the connections we nurture, and the learning and growth that happen during each child's time with us. Thank you for such a meaningful gift. We will treasure it for many years to come. 💚

Windy Day Fun!
Yesterday’s huge winds sparked lots of creativity! The children made kites from reusable bags and watched them soar, connecting their experience to the star Ururangi. 🪁
Indoors, they created Puanga stars using popsticks and wool, strengthening hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills through art. 🎨✨
A wonderful day of learning, creativity, and making the most of nature! 💙
