Take a peek at some of the everyday creativity happening at Brooklands Kindergarten! Tamariki are offered time, space, and open-ended materials to explore, create, and bring their ideas to life, both indoors and outdoors.
Loose parts play encourages creativity, imagination, problem-solving, communication, and flexible thinking. With no single “right way” to play, tamariki can invent, build, redesign, collaborate, and follow their own interests and theories.
Whether creating, constructing, transporting, pretending, or experimenting, these moments support rich learning and allow imaginations to flourish. We love seeing the many different ways tamariki use everyday materials to express themselves and play out their ideas. 💛

NEXT TUESDAY EVENING:
We are SO excited to share that Kimberley Crisp is coming to Taranaki to work her magic with our local ECE teachers and educators… and lucky for us, she has also generously agreed to offer a special evening for our parenting community at Flourish Taranaki. How cool is that?!
Kimberley is known for her warm, heart-led approach to children, relationships, play, emotional wellbeing, and family life. Together we will explore conversations around:
*The sacred urge to play
* Being a leader as a parent within the whānau
*The importance of rituals and celebrations in family life
This will be a relaxed and inspiring evening filled with connection, reflection, questions, and meaningful conversation.
We are incredibly grateful to Kimberley for sharing her time and wisdom with our community ❤️

This week we harvested our rainbow carrots from the māra and what a surprise to find some of them all twisted together like they were giving each other a big hug! 🥕🥕
We peeled and grated the colourful red, yellow and orange carrots with kaiako supporting us to carefully use the peelers and graters. Afterwards, we collected eggs from the chickens and worked together to make delicious carrot muffins, taking turns to stir and spoon the mixture into the trays.
Growing, harvesting and cooking our own food helps tamariki learn practical skills, teamwork and where healthy food comes from. 🌱🧁

Today we had a visit from Li Qi from Dental Delight! We are lucky to have Li Qi as a parent in our kindergarten and have him share today how important it is to care for our teeth. Tamariki took turns to brush a set of teeth. We learnt that we should brush our teeth for 3 minutes, after we eat and drink lots of water after eating. Everyone was given a toothbrush and a fun chart to help with teeth brushing. Ngā mihi nui Li Qi and Dental Delight - everyone is now very excited to brush their teeth 😁

What a wonderful surprise we arrived to at kindergarten today!
Overnight, our outdoor project has come to life with roofing installed over our new permanent sandpit (perfect timing with today’s rain ☔), a new water tank to collect rainwater, and an incredible ship complete with a mast, steering wheel, and telescope, alongside a beautiful arch bridge.
Tamariki were absolutely delighted, and already we can see their imaginations taking flight. We can’t wait to see the adventures and learning that unfold in this amazing new space!
Ngā mihi nui to our wonderful builder, Clint from Manna Building, and to our community for the wonderful fundraising we have done over the last year🫶❤️We are very proud 😊

Autumn - Ngahuru is beginning to show itself in our kindergarten 🌿🍂
Today, our lawn was sprinkled with brown leaves, inviting our tamariki into a world of play and discovery. With rakes in hand, they worked together to gather the leaves into big piles, jumping, crunching, and tossing them into the air. We listened to the crunchy rustle underfoot as children explored in their own ways, walking through, driving dump trucks to transport their leafy loads, and even creating little roads winding through the piles.
There’s something special about this change in season. Warm days follow crisp mornings, and nature offers new textures, colours, and experiences to enjoy together.
We’re looking forward to watching our blossom tree transform and share its beautiful autumn colours with us 🍁

🎉🎉Today is the day🎉🎉
Kindergarten Taranaki is now officially Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens!
These are exciting times ahead for our kindergartens, and for early childhood education in Taranaki.
The joining of our two associations will ensure the continuation and advocacy of high quality kindergarten education for tamariki in our region.
Parents and whānau, tamariki and staff in Taranaki will benefit from the support and resources provided by Whānau Manaaki – a large and long established kindergarten association.
You will notice that our kindergartens signs have changed to have the Whānau Manaaki branding on them, but we want to reassure you that your tamariki will continue to have the same caring Kaiako each day at kindergarten, and benefit from the same high-quality teaching and learning practises that you are used to.
If you have any questions, please have a chat with your Head Teacher.
