Kindergarten Taranaki is now officially Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens!

These are exciting times ahead for our kindergartens, and for early childhood education in Taranaki.

The joining of our two associations will ensure the continuation and advocacy of high quality kindergarten education for tamariki in our region.

Parents and whānau, tamariki and staff in Taranaki will benefit from the support and resources provided by Whānau Manaaki – a large and long established kindergarten association.

You will notice that our kindergartens signs have changed to have the Whānau Manaaki branding on them, but we want to reassure you that your tamariki will continue to have the same caring Kaiako each day at kindergarten, and benefit from the same high-quality teaching and learning practises that you are used to.

Kia Ora Whānau, I hope you have been enjoying your public holiday today for Anzac Day whatever you are doing.

Teachers have been talking to children about remembrance. Anzac Day means different things to different people. Kyla and Kylie have family members who have served and Anzac day is important to us.

Kana has been working with children to make poppies, symbols of remembrance and created a wreath of the poppies.

Today I went to the morning service in New Plymouth and placed our Westown Kindergarten wreath on the cenotaph.

As the speaker said Anzac day is not a day that glorifies war but that celebrates people and their bravery, friendship and courage to work together and for each other.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Today Westown Kindergarten had a visit from the Puke Ariki Mobile Library. Amanda and Walt read two stories for our tamariki and then some children could go and visit the Mobile Library.

The library often has some great holiday programmes on. If you become a member and sign up to the digital library. you can also access the digital library. This means you can borrow books online on your phone from the comfort of home. They have ebooks, eaudiobooks and a range of newspapers and magazines for digital access.
