I'm in this and the choreographer. There is a dancing camel, a little bit of belly dancing and I get to play ukulele as well. It will be a good time and such fun for the whole family. Cheers, Gretchen
Sinbad the Sailor (Retired) - The Theatre Royal Sinbad the Sailor has retired from his voyages and is now sitting around his palace feeling just a bit fed up. His knees ache and his back hurts; the result of all the wild adventures of his youth. That is, until one day, he gets a cry for help from an old friend, Betsy High […]

Hi there, No posts here for awhile. Not much happening. Some exciting news from MEDANZ (Middle Eastern Dance Association New Zealand)
Festival 2021 - Nelson - Anzac Weekend 24-26 April 2021
The MEDANZ committee are so happy to announce that Festival 2021 will be held in Nelson, at the top of the South Island. This central New Zealand town is easy to access by car and plane, and has the most fabulous facilities for us to hold our 20th annual festival. Sunny Nelson is temperate (good news in April) and is in one of the more famous wine growing areas of NZ ;-) The show is planned for Saturday night, the AGM on Saturday afternoon immediately before the dress rehearsal. Workshops will start later on Sunday morning for those who wish to attend the Anzac Dawn Service, with the hafla on Sunday night. Workshops will extend to Monday morning (a public holiday), with plenty of time for members to return home on Monday afternoon, refreshed and rejuvenated from a fabulous MEDANZ Festival weekend.
We are now calling for expressions of interest from Tutors, Performers and Volunteers who would like to take part in this Festival - it simple - visit the new MEDANZ website https://www.medanz.org.nz/festival-2021 click on the link for Tutor, Performer or Volunteer and complete the form, - one workshop or performance idea per form please! Applications are open for just 2 weeks for tutors, and mid November for performers, so complete the form today.
If you're not a MEDANZ member, it's a good time to join if you want to be part of the Nelson festival.
Happy Shimmies!

Now's a great time to join MEDANZ and help keep the community of New Zealand dancers alive.
Here's the message from the new committee:
Your new committee met last Sunday night to discuss and agree on our vision for MEDANZ through to April 2021, and how we initially intend to increase the network of MEDANZ members and teachers. Here is a quick summary of the meeting minutes - these will be posted on the MEDANZ web site in due course.
It’s ‘do or die’ time for MEDANZ with the membership now under 60!
Volunteers are as follows with areas of responsibility:
President: Liza Irvine
VP - Beverley Dowling
Treasurer - Diane James
Secretary - Angela Mott
Membership - Kathryn Gilligan
Teachers - Judith Varga
Newsletter - shared Vanessa (Ness) Taylor, Diane James and Angela Mott
Website: shared Ness Taylor, Judith Varga and Angela Mott
Facebook & social media - Angela Mott and Toni Blincoe

2021 Festival & AGM - Liza Irvine
General intent: committee agreed that our focus needs to be on increasing the network of dancers around New Zealand, students, enthusiasts and teachers.
Committee agreed to offer a Covid19 Discount of 70%, valid through until 30 June 2021, making the new membership fee $15 per person for both individual and family memberships - this applies to all new, returning and renewing memberships, so just $15 through to June next year for everyone! Hope you like that one! And yes you can pay by PAYPAL with an Invoice - useful for teachers claiming this on their expenses!
Committee have decided to cancel all future scholarships and fellowships at this time.
Newsletter - all members of the committee believe the Newsletter is valuable and therefore enthusiastically support its reinstatement. It will also be available in printed form for additional (minimal) cost -exact cost to be confirmed.
The committee support the transition to the new web site and will work towards completing this project asap.
With network support there will be a 2021 MEDANZ festival - details to be advised in due course.
If you have any ideas that you think this committee should consider, please email us, we will respond and consider your suggestions.
