WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Tamariki enjoyed a Wild Thing themed party on Tuesday inspired by the classic book by Maurice Sendak. We spent time preparing by sewing tails, making paper crowns, decorating collage masks and even cutting and painting claws!
Lots of fun was had with games, drama, music and kai.

Let the Wild Rumpus Start!

Celebrating our amazing new vege garden - māra kai!
Big thanks to parents Hayley and Damian Fernando from Atawhai 4 square for funding support via South Island Foodstuffs. Materials subsidised by Mitre 10, Awesome building by Nelson Menzshed, soil kindly donated by Millers Firewood and Landscape Supplies, filled and planted by our amazing parents and tamariki - This was a community effort indeed!
Our tamariki have been watering, watching and harvesting through the summer - So much rich learning.
Ngā mihi nui to everyone who has supported this wonderful project.

Our new vegetable garden/mara kai is just bursting with life! Tamariki are harvesting vegetables for our shared morning teas, baking in the afternoons and enjoying the flowers. Kaiako carefully plan activities that follow child interests and promote new learning.
Tamariki have been enjoying making different colour dyes from plants and flowers as well as creating Japanese hapa zome artwork. Hapa zome involves first choosing leaves, flowers or petals and arranging them into a pattern on fabric. They are then pressed (with a hammer!) to release the dye.
