This morning our tamariki came dressed in their pyjamas, costumes, and favourite outfits to support an amazing cause — Kai Rescue! 🥳💛

We have been absolutely blown away by the generosity of our whānau and community. Thanks to your kindness, we have already raised over $100 to support the important work of rescuing food and helping people in our community. Ka mau te wehi! 👏

Our tamariki have loved showing off their outfits while learning about how we can care for people and the environment by reducing food waste. 🌎🍎

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who donated and supported this fundraiser. Every contribution makes a difference.

Mā tātou katoa te taiao e tiaki – together we can care for our environment and community. 💚

We extend our gratitude to the Nellie Knitters Nelson Public Libraries Ngā Whare Mātauranga o Whakatū for their generous donation of a variety of knitted hats and clothing for our tamariki, who were delighted to select their own winter beanies. If you have any wool hiding in your homes please donate to these amazing knitters 🥰

Ngā mihi Cat! Now all the tamariki know what to do to keep themselves safe!

🐾 Keeping Tamariki Safe Around Dogs 🐾

This is such an important topic and a fantastic initiative by Nelson City Council.

I feel incredibly honoured to be involved in a project that combines one of my many canine related passions—helping children and dogs build safe, positive relationships.

This week, Emily and I are delivering 10 separate presentations to classes at Nayland Primary School, following a wonderful visit to Nelson Central Kindergarten last week.

Teaching tamariki how to safely interact with dogs is one of the most valuable ways we can help prevent bites and create respectful, confident relationships between children and our canine companions.

This program is FREE for schools, kindergartens and community groups under Nelson City Council. 🐶💙👧👦

Kia ora e te whānau!

We had a fabulous time with Kath Bee a couple of weeks ago!

Our tamariki loved this song.

We are excited that she is coming back soon for another session. The children loved having a dance, keeping the beat with shakers and hearing some of their favourite songs!

You might see some familiar faces in the video 🤩

Congratulations Kath!

🐸 Exciting news from the tadpole tank! 🐸
Today we discovered that many of our tadpoles have officially become froglets — tiny frogs with little tails still attached! The tamariki were so excited watching them climb up the sides of the tank and explore their new abilities.

We’ve updated their habitat to give them lots of places to climb onto and rest as they move from water to land. This has opened up such rich opportunities for discussion and learning — life cycles, growth, change, and how we care for living things in our environment.

It’s a magical moment watching the tamariki connect with te taiao and observe real science happening right in front of them. 🌱💧🐸

Ka rawe, froglets!

A Great Day at the Gym!

Today our tamariki had an awesome adventure at Nelson Gymnastics! Everyone showed such māia (courage) and confidence as they balanced, climbed, jumped, and rolled their way around the gym. It was wonderful to see tamariki challenging themselves and encouraging their friends — tino pai! 💪✨

A huge thank you to our whānau helpers who joined us today — your support and smiles made the day even more special. 💛

We can’t wait for our next haerenga ako (learning adventure) together! 🌿
