** 2026 MOKNZ Kyokushin Full Contact Open Karate Championship, Whanganui **

It was a privilege for Nelson Shibu to be personally invited to this National championship by Hanshi Doug Holloway, head of Kyokushin Karate in New Zealand.

Hanshi Doug is the pioneer of Kyokushin Karate in NZ. Hanshi developed a very close relationship with Eiko Hanshi Renzie Hanham and Eiko Hanshi Andy Barber, who were also both part of the foundation of Kyokushin Karate in NZ.

Senpai Naomi Alderson was the only Seido Karate representative at this National Tournament.

I am very proud to say she represented Seido Karate with courage, respect and courtesy.

1st place heavy weight women’s kumite
Women’s Yokozuna (women’s elite fighter of the tournament)
3rd place in open hand Kata

Senpai Naomi has recently returned from the World Seido Karate International Zen Shin anniversary tournament in New York, where she placed 1st in Contact Sparring, 1st in Points Sparring and 2nd in Synchronized Group Kata.

We are very proud of Senpai Naomi for her leadership role in Nelson Shibu both as an instructor and a student, and for the path she has set for the students in our dojo.

Today we were privileged to observe our Nelson Shibu Zen Shin team present their individual and team katas with focus, power and heart.

We also witnessed the first public performance of the Seido Karate Haka, Te Ara Pono, translating to 'The Sincere Way'; a powerful expression created for this historic moment. Its full strength will be revealed on the dojo floor in New York.

As these dedicated karate-ka now join 37 members of the New Zealand Seido family travelling from across the country to the World Seido Karate 50th Anniversary International Tournament, we send them with our deepest respect and support.
