To celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year, we will be having a shared hot breakfast on Weds 18th June at 7:30am - Tahunanui School Muritai Centre Hall.
In the past this has been for our families only, however this year, with the support of the Tahunanui Community Hub we are also inviting the wider community, we hope to see all of our families attend this wonderful event at Tahunanui School.
A heads up for community -
On the evening of 5th October and potentially on the days surrounding that. We will have LANDSAR running an exercise within the school grounds. This may involve people moving around with headlights and radios and high vis vests, potentially dogs. Please don’t panic about this we are aware and supportive of this community event.

We have had some sad new this morning that a past parent of our community has passed away. The family are understandably in shock and a friend of the family has started a give-a-little page to help raise some money to cover the funeral costs.
Please have a look at the link if you are able to do so.

Kia hari te tau hou Tahunanui School whanau and friends,
I hope you have all been enjoying these lovely summer days and are feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead.
Staff are preparing for your children's return on Wednesday 1st February. We have a number of Staff Only Days this week and the office will be open for phone calls, emails and enrolments and I am available most days for drop in enquiries (please ring ahead if you can).
To ease the transition back to school, especially for new children, we are having a welcome morning on Thursday 26th January from 9 am until 11am. We will start by greeting you at the Muritai Centre entrance at 9am, providing a special welcome to new families and staff and a brief introduction to the year. After this you will can either join a tour of the school or head straight to your children's classes to check in with their teachers. At 10.30am we will meet back in the Muritai Centre for some morning tea. Any and all of your questions can be answered at this time and hopefully it will give you and your children extra confidence when our first school day arrives. If you aren't able to make the welcome, you can just pop into the classes between 9.30 - 10.30am on that day. In the meantime, hunt out the school uniforms, hats and bags and remind your children of all the wonderful friends and staff they'll be seeing soon. Such an exciting time of year :) Stay safe and please let us know if any of your contact numbers or circumstances have changed since last year.
Kind Regards,
Barbara Bowen, Principal

Exciting event for our community
First 1000 Days
Understand your Brain
Wed 16 November 2022: 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Tahunanui School - Nelson
Tahunanui School is proud to announce that the host of the documentary "All in the Mind", and co-host of the TV Series "The Secret life of Girls", Nathan Wallis, Aotearoa's renowned neuroscience educator, is coming to our community with his talk -The First 1000 Days - Understand Your Brain.
This is the foundation talk for all of Nathan's other talks, where you learn about the structure of your brain and how these impact on everything you say and do. To understand how this structure comes about means re-examining your early life and the first 1000 days.
The First 1000 Days of your life will shape what kind of person you will turn into. In contrast to what your parents believed, it's not just about your genes and it's not about learning alphabets, numbers or colours. It's about being in a safe, loving and interactive environment. The more love and positive interaction you experience in your first 1000 days of life, the more developed your brain will be. This will ultimately impact all of your child's life-long outcomes (far more than secondary school ever will!).
Come along and get a summary of the latest research and everything a parent, grandparent or whānau needs to know.
Tickets are available at www.eventfinda.co.nz.
