Lisa McGregor is an artist at heart, a lover of fabric and an up-cycler of all sorts of furniture. Her roots are in traditional Upholstery but, her flare is in teaching people her craft and her love of her artistry. This Upholstress has her fingers in a few pies, following her passion of teaching people to recycle their pre-loved furniture is why Boho Velvet Upholstery was born. Lisa is a long time upholsterer and now teaches her craft through her own upholstery classes, and collaboratively with Waimea College evening classes, and the beginners upholstery class for Voodoo Molly Vintage. She has a keen eye to finding some treasures from the trash heap and turning them into masterpieces. Lucky for you all, this is also where you can purchase some of her beautifully up-cycled pieces. Her expertise has encouraged many people to transform pieces of furniture. They keep coming back to her classes to discover more skills and up-cycle their own finds from the trash heap. Send us a message for all enquiries. If you want to purchase any of my pieces posted on this page, please comment on the post/photo and I will private message you the price details.

This is Happy from Snow White. I was asked to restore this very old toy. When I received him he had lost his shape, being quite flat with the original horse hair stuffing. I added more hair to plump him up and gave him a new set of clothes. He'll be fine for another 100 years now. What a treat to work on something so unique. Thank you to my my client for trusting me with such a special family heirloom.

I've Started painting an elegant table to repurpose to become an upholstered end of bed stool. My question to you is in your opinion which fabric shall I use? Beautiful vintage flower linen or a delicious blue velvet perhaps deep buttoned? Neither of which are particularly good colour representation in these photos :)

Its with a sad heart that I'm saying goodbye to teaching for a while. Just a while. I have been teaching upholstery for 8 years and have loved every minute of it, to see the passion and joy and accomplishments from all my students over the years has been wonderful. So my plan is to upholster my furniture collection in the container....there's an eclectic mix in there and I can't wait to share my peices with you.
Who knows I might even write an upholstery project book :)
Happy upholstering everyone :)
