15 and under boys needed
We need 5 x boys to make 2nd team

Whakatu flames was originally set up to give our girls the opportunity to play more basketball and not just be closed to representative players.
We have been running 3 years now and take a girls' team to Tauranga for hoop nation and Wanganui for junior show case tournaments.
We are wanting to extend our club to include boy's teams as well.
(This is subject to securing registration as it's a first come first served with limited numbers, but we have several parents sitting on computers waiting to register as soon as they open on November 13th 2022) so we are hopeful .

Junior show case 2023 is April 18th to 21st (2nd week school hoildays)
We take a team of 8 girls , hoping to take 2 this year and possibly a boys' team.
We take 8 players as we want them to have as much court time as possible.
We currently have one boys' team and 3 for a 2nd.
Games are four 8 min quarters with running clock.
Cost for this tournament is between $1100 and $1200
It is high but that's in part to location.
This cost is before any fundraising and covers
Uniform (you get to keep) of
Training T
Hoody
Playing shorts and singlet
Flights
Vehicle hire/fuel
Accommodation
Food

And any other small incidentals.
For those who want to be part of fundraising we work hard at this to bring costs down.
Age group is
15 and under
Can be 15 till end of tournament

We require commitment from players by
Thursday 10th November and then a $200 deposit will be required once registration is secured to cover the registration fee and flight deposit.

Davidson becomes newest member of the Giants He might be just a teenage, but Nick Davidson has made some giant strides in his basketball career, becoming the newest member of the Nelson Giants.

Basketball organisation is in full swing. A little bit tricky with no assemblies to make announcements in. Check the school notices regularly
Year 9 - first trial is done. An additional trial for call backs and those who missed the first one will be Thursday 7th April at 3:30pm. You will receive an email from Alethea if you got a call back.
Year 10 - trial Thursday 3:30pm in the gym with the Year 9 call back group.
Year 11-13 : You should be in a team by now. This message is especially for those Year 11 boys who did not trial for senior basketball.
If you are not yet in a team, please see Alethea in the Sports Office asap.

All social teams should be in already - be quick, time is running out !! See Alethea now!

Prep Slammers won the Interschool basketball competition! The Slammers pulled off a superb final game to win the tightly fought basketball tournament against their rivals, the BIS 'A-team. Huge thanks to Year 12 college student Nick Davidson for coaching the Prep team and their awesome manager, Sharona Gordon. Great effort boys!😀
