A heartfelt thank you to one of our generous whānau who recently donated venison to support families within our school community.

This act of kindness beautifully reflects our values of Aroha and Kotahitanga — showing care for others and strengthening our community by looking after one another. It is through gestures like these that we see the positive impact of whānau supporting whānau.

Ngā mihi nui for your generosity and for thinking of others ❤

🎨 We are excited to share that artwork created by our Maitai students will be on display at The Makery on Thursday 11th June.

Throughout the day, classes will be visiting to celebrate the creativity, imagination and hard work that our students have poured into their artwork. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase their learning and reflects our value of Ako as students express their ideas, develop new skills and share their talents with others.

Whānau are warmly invited to pop in and view the exhibition between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

A very big thank you to Kaye for your teaching and organisation of this Art Show.

Dear Whānau

On Wednesday 10th June we will be hosting a Transition Information workshop regarding the transition process from school to the community when students reach school leaving age. Although the transition focus starts once your young person turns 16, all families are welcome to attend.

The workshop will be held in the meeting room at Maitai Base School, and you are invited to attend all or some of the sessions.

We will host 3 speakers who will be discussing different aspects of this process:

9 - 10
Trevor Irwin, from Nelson Bays Community Law Service will talk about welfare guardianship, property management and other legal issues once a young person turns 18.

10.30 - 11.30

Susan Aitken and Lynette Steele will attend/present from Support Works Disability. Please note that there have been several changes within the Disability area over the past 6–12 months, and it would be beneficial to have an up-to-date understanding of these developments.

11.30- 12.30

Karen Hodgkinson from Options will discuss the role the Transition providers can play in your rangatahi's last year of school.

We will have tea, coffee and light refreshments on hand.

Please RSVP to Jenni Verity [email protected] to let her know if you would like to come and which sessions you would like to attend.

Kia ora e te whānau,

Please join us in acknowledging the amazing teaching and learning that is occuring in our Maitai classrooms ❤️

Last term BSLA staff members from University of Canterbury came to observe our teachers and learners in action. We proudly received some lovely positive feedback and we are working on implementing our identified next steps.

Today UC staff joined our Mahitahi Satellite to film some of this teaching in action as they were so impressed by the standard of teaching they saw. Congratulations Aleksandra, we are so proud of you.
