Pohutukawa - remembering those who are no longer with us. We read a book 'the invisible leash'. We were also sad to discover that the only caterpillar that reached the stage of hatching as a butterfly didn't make it any further than that, we don't know what happened but it did hatch on the coldest morning we've had this year so far. It was carefully carried in a paper towel, with a flower placed gently beside it 🌼 🦋

Ururangi - wind: we made rainbow ribbons for dancing, moving like the wind.

We have begun preparing for Matariki, connecting with each of the 9 stars in the cluster. Waitī - freshwater: we visited ngā tuna nui (big eels) at Borck stream, and made our own song about them. Waitā - sea water: we created sea themed colourful scratch art and played beach games (we have also been enjoying card games 'mermaid' and 'go shark').

Our monarch babies are growing bigger and stronger every day - from 1 tiny baby at Easter to 4 big caterpillars and 2 little babies (across 2 plants) now - I think one won't be far off creating its chrysalis. We check on them regularly to see how they grow and change.
