Week 5 star ✨️
Monday night table tennis 🏓 well done to our winner Jack
And then we had a night at the school gym playing brodie ball.
On the weekend a few students went down to watch the final game of hockey garin vs Nelson College.
The girls decorated a bag which was bright and colourful to use.
And then we had a game of 'white elephant'. Great to see our students supportive of one another. 👏

Week 4 ✨️
On monday we had a table tennis 🏓 competition and Clara won. Well done Clara 👏
Wednesday we went up to the school gym to play volleyball.
And on the weekend a group of students went to the golf driving range ⛳️
Olivia has been doing a sewing course over the last 4 weeks and she got creative and made a hand bag 👜

Week 3 ✨️
Our boarders had a fantastic monday night at jumpin, enjoying plenty of fun and laughs together.
Flo, Noah and Molly had an exciting opportunity to have a look at the helicopters 🚁
Alina and Hiroto helped in the kitchen and made Japanese chicken balls and rice.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Erin Gleeson, who has been invited to join the Alpiners U18 Hockey Talent Development and Selection Camp to be held in October. The Alpiners is the New Zealand Hockey development pathway franchise. Well done Erin on gaining this prestigious opportunity!

Week 2 💫
Our boarders took part in a variety of activites this week. We had a bingo evening, we all had a go at trying to complete a jigsaw puzzle and had a afternoon of fun up at the school gym.

Welcome back for Term 3 😁

Amy and her friends went to the recent interschool DanceNZmade event. After an energetic day full of dance workshops there was an evening of competing where she danced a self-choreographed solo and trio. Amy's talent earned her an invitation to the New Zealand School of Dance Invitation Award for December 2026 and a nomination to compete at the National event as well as First Place for both of her dances. Thanks to Ms Lau and Ms Gray for accompanying the girls on this wonderful dance opportunity.

Garin College entered two teams in the Tasman Secondary Schools Equestrian Championships held yesterday at Rough Island Equestrian Park.

Congratulations to our riders, Charlotte Baxter, Pippa Draper, Lucy Gale, Oliver Shattock, Breanne Palmer and Millie Fellows (Golden Bay High School) and their horses who represented Garin College so well at this event. Thank you too, to Coach Vanessa Baxer, Manager Mhairi Gray and all parents for their help and support on the day.

Riders of both teams competed in show jumping, dressage and show cross. The Garin Gold team did super well, placing 4th team overall in all three disciplines.

Individual riders also were also awarded for exemplary performances, with Lucy Gale winning Overall Junior Champion and Oliver Shattock and Charlotte Baxter placing 1st and 2nd in Level 2 dressage respectively, while Lucy Gale placed first in Level 1 dressage.

Also, we congratulate Oliver and Lucy, who were recognised at the Dressage New Zealand Annual Awards held in Christchurch last weekend:

- Oliver Shattock: Young Rider Top 10 League 2025 - 2026 Under 25 Young Rider Novice Level 2 Area Winner Nelson

- Lucy Gale: Dressage Pony Top 10 League 2025 - 2026 Pony Preliminary Rider (Level 1) Area Winner Marlborough

Well done to all riders for their commitment to their sport, diligent care of their horses and support of one another.

A huge congratulations to Garin College student Noah Gear on her outstanding performance at the 2026 South Island Weightlifting Championships!

Noah's dedication, determination and hard work continue to produce incredible results. She will now represent Garin College at the New Zealand Secondary School Weightlifting Championships, where she'll also be taking on an exciting challenge—attempting to break the Under 15 New Zealand Weightlifting Record! 🇳🇿

We are incredibly proud of Noah's achievements and can't wait to cheer her on as she continues to reach new heights.

Last friday afternoon we went roller skating! 🛼✨
Our hostel students had an awesome time on the rink, encouraging one another, sharing plenty of laughs, and building confidence as they tried something new. It was great to see everyone getting involved, supporting their friends.
