Garin Hostel Why Garin Hostel? Small Community base Catholic hostels - a home away from home For students who get fully involved, boarding is great fun and very rewarding.

The Garin College Hostel

The Garin College Hostel Trust was set up 2001 to plan and provide quality accommodation for Catholic families from the outlying areas of the top of the South Island. Garin College, a new state integrated Catholic College was opened in 2002 and Garin Boarding Hostels provided families who wanted the opportunity for their children to attend while living in a family environment. Being new we had the opportunity to do things differently, change from the old style of boarding institutions, to something as close to the family unit as we could. The result is two 15 bedroom homes nestled in a quiet residential subdivision a short walk from Garin College. Mother Teresa House and Francis Douglas House

Mother Teresa and Francis Douglas houses are modern, busy, vibrant and stimulating places designed to be like large family homes with space for only 28 boarders in each hostel looked after by hostel parents. Boarding at Garin offers great experiences for any child and the chance to meet new people, experience new cultures and make new friends. Being in Nelson and at Garin College offers great opportunities to be involved in school-based, after-school and weekend activities. Nelson has a great environment and is blessed with not only great sporting, recreation and extra-curricular opportunities but being here in Tasman bay we have wonderful beaches, safe rivers and in the winter we try to get to the ski field at least once. A busy boarder is a happy boarder. Mother Teresa House

Congratulations, Fletcher!
Year 13 student Fletcher Sanders has been successful in gaining a farming cadetship with Otiwhiti School of Agriculture in Hunterville for 2027!
Otiwhiti operates across an impressive 450-hectare working farm, giving Fletcher the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in large-scale farming while developing his skills and knowledge.
And there’s an extra challenge ahead – Fletcher will also be training his own Heading Dog during his time at Otiwhiti!
We wish Fletcher all the very best for this exciting next step in his farming journey. We know he’ll make the most of this fantastic opportunity!

And then we had a night at the school gym playing brodie ball.
On the weekend a few students went down to watch the final game of hockey garin vs Nelson College.
The girls decorated a bag which was bright and colourful to use.
And then we had a game of 'white elephant'. Great to see our students supportive of one another. 👏
