I want to tell you something I didn’t think I’d share here.

In 2015 I packed up my life in Mexico and moved to New Zealand. New country, new language, new everything. I had years of experience working with children and families already, a qualification, real knowledge, but none of that made the fear go away. Some days it still doesn’t.

English is my second language, and even now, after everything, there are moments it makes me question if I really belong here, if I’m really capable of building something real in a country that isn’t the one I was born in.

Last week I gave my very first workshop for parents here in Nelson. A room full of parents, trusting me with their questions about their kids, their families, their hardest moments as parents. I stood up there in my second language and I did it anyway, insecurities and all.

I’m not sharing this because I’ve got it all figured out. I’m sharing it because I know some of you reading this are also doing something that scares you, whether that’s starting a business, raising kids in a place that doesn’t feel like home yet, or just showing up somewhere you don’t feel fully confident. I want you to know that showing up scared still counts. It still matters.

This photo is from that first workshop. I’ll never forget it.

If you’ve ever felt like you had to earn your place before you were allowed to take up space, tell me in the comments. I’d love to hear it your experience 🤎 let’s connect!

“Just stay calm” is the most unhelpful parenting advice ever given. 😅

Because yes… but HOW?
Co-regulation is the actual answer. And once you understand what it really means, it changes everything about how you show up in the hard moments.

Swipe through for what it actually looks like in real life and save this one.

If your child is going through a hitting or biting phase right now — firstly, breathe.

It doesn’t mean you’re raising a feral child. You’re raising a small human with enormous feelings and a very underdeveloped brain.

This is one of the most common things parents come to me about. And hey, the way you respond in these moments genuinely shapes how they learn to handle big emotions long term.

Swipe through for what actually helps.

Drop a comment if you’re in this season right now — let’s talk about it. And share this with a parent who needs to hear that they’re not alone. 💛

School holidays are here and we are ALWAYS looking for something to do 🙋‍♀️

Last Sunday we hit our favourite coffee stop: Tahuna Breakfast Club — and it did not disappoint!

We walked in and before I even ordered my coffee, they had already spotted the colouring on the shelf, grabbed what they needed and settled themselves at the table. Hot chocolate for the oldest, a fluffy for the youngest, and a donut each later — they were completely in their element. And me? I actually got to sit down, wrap my hands around a hot coffee and read. Like actually read, more than one line. 😭☕

And THEN I looked up and I realised they’d spotted the magazines on the bench and helped themselves to those too. Just like that. 🥹

I’m going to be sharing my favourite Nelson spots for school holidays (and maybe some activities?), places that are genuinely great for tamariki AND actually let you exhale for five minutes.

💬 Tell me your favourite Nelson café with kids — drop it below! 👇
