Today we honour ANZAC Day - a time to pause, reflect and remember.

We acknowledge with gratitude the bravery and sacrifice of those who served our country. Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we hold today and the unity we share as New Zealanders and with Australia.

🌳 Story Walk at Taradale Park

πŸ“š We are making the most of this beautiful weather and enjoying an outing to a β€œStory Walk" behind the Taradale Library.

🌳 The story was of the very cute and very funny Wonkey Donkey. She had long eyelashes, loved to listen to country music, has bright pink hooves and has a very cool spiky haircut. The story lead us along the path, around the colourful gardens and finished off just by the library. We all laughed at the story as we walked.

πŸ“š This was a fantastic way to not only enjoy a wonderful story, but to connect links with our community. There were lots of people out and about enjoying the park too. We all said good morning and waved out as we walked along.

With Cyclone Vaianu on its way to Hawke’s Bay, we’re thinking of you all.

The severe weather predicted may cause disruption across our community. We will be carefully assessing the safety of the centre, including access, staffing and any potential damage as the storm progresses.

What a fabulous time we had celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year! All the children and teachers enjoyed learning to sing Chinese greeting songs. A fun art experience was a hit with all the children painting red card with glue and sprinkling them with loads of gold glitter. When they dried we turned them all into Chinese lanterns.

Red and gold colours and the lanterns symbolise luck, happiness and prosperity and are often seen in homes in China throughout the New Year celebrations. What a great way to mark the 2026 Lunar New Year 🧧

Celebrating and Honouring Waitangi Day the Happy Days way!

This year at Happy Days we are celebrating and honouring the 'Te Tiriti o Waitangi' with our tamariki by recognising their incredible mindfulness journey over the last year. Many aspects of mindfulness links to the Treaty through Protection, Partnership and Participation. Here's is how your tamariki have been Super Mindful Heroes and honouring our Treaty through the 3 P's:

Partnership - working together

Whakawhanaungatanga (relationships, togetherness and connectiveness) shining brightly!

Participation - respecting each other. Feeling empowered by knowing that they are valued. This embodies Hauora by looking after our Holistic Health and Wellbeing - uplifting each other!

Protection - what amazing Kaitiaki (guardians) of our environments everyone has been. Protecting our living world and all the environments of Happy Days with kindness, helpfulness and gentleness!

Whakawhanaungatanga, Hauora and Kaitiakitanga are our 3 'Priorities for our Learners' and we are all super proud of our Super Mindful Heroes.

Throughout the week we held little ceremonies for all tamariki where they will be able to sign our Happy Days Treaty for 2026 and receive their own golden trophy as a special thank you from their Kaiako (teachers) as they are truly 'Super Mindful Heroes'!

We love to celebrate Art Deco every year at Happy Days with a special morning tea. Our wonderful Grandparents and/or special person, joined us for a lovely morning tea, a fun concert by the children and were able to have photos inside a vintage car and a ride on vintage car. This was a great way to strengthen connections with our whanau and wider community and celebrate our region's history and identity.

A bigger brighter space for our Happy Days tamariki 🌟✨
Neil and I, along with our wondeful builder and plasterer team, had a busy weekend a fee weekends back - transforming our Nga Pepi room into a bigger brighter space 🌟✨

It did feel a bit like an episode of The Block with a tight deadline to have it ready for our littlest judges and the big reveal this morning for when they arrive πŸ˜„πŸ’›

We've another weekend next weekend to do a few touch ups and then on to painting so not quite finished but ready for tamariki this morning.

We hope you like the new space as much as we do 😊
