Today is Daffodil Day - collecting for Cancer Society Hawke's Bay.

Groups of students collected donations for the Cancer Society Hawke's Bay today in Taradale. Our students were recognised as being smiley, fun and cheerful - especially the singing groups!
We would like to thank all those who stopped and made donations. One lovely lady donated four daffodil dollies for people to have when they made their donations.

1 in 3 New Zealanders will get cancer at some point in their lives.
Every donation helps support people in our community, with support groups, transport to treatment, massage, accommodation, meals, nurse or navigator, advocacy and research.

Last week a group of students were able to check out Victoria Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington at the recent open day.

The university was very busy, students checked out their areas of interest, went to lectures, and took part in all sorts of activities. Some students taking the time to also go to Te Aro to check out all things design and innovation orientated.

Our meeting place was the cool Tuatara enclosure.

Opportunity Knocks for Mackenzie Leckner

What: Spirit of Adventure Trust
When: 5th to 14th July 2026

Why?
I go out on the water with dad and fish a lot, it is one of my favorite things to do. I also love the water, and swimming is one of my biggest passions, for the last few summers I have been learning how to surf.

How did you find out about this opportunity?
Whaea Chelsea brought it to me and then I was working with Mrs Morgan to make the scholarship application and go through the process of filling out all the paperwork. I am so grateful to all the people who helped me and made it possible.

What was the best thing about this experience?
There were so many amazing experiences that I was able to have while on the Spirit. My best experience was being able to go snorkeling at the Poor Knights. We took little boats into this huge cave and jumped off. I have never experienced anything like it. The reefs were so beautiful and there were so many fish. I am forever grateful that I was lucky enough to experience it.

What impact has this had on you?
The people. It was such a surreal experience having 40 strangers all sharing a small place in the middle of the ocean for 10 days. It had such an impact on me on how close you all get in a short amount of time. I will forever remember every single amazing person on that ship.
