Happy and sad news…
Unfortunately for Tamatea Kindergarten Kristi will be finishing up. She is not going far and will still be teaching within our association. Kristi has taken up another teaching role where she has the opportunity to grow her skills further. While we are devastated for the children, whanau and the teaching team we are so happy for her and her new kindergarten who are gaining such a knowledgeable, dedicated, fun and loving teacher. Kristi’s last day at Tamatea will be Friday the 27th of March.

A personal note from Kristi…
It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to all the amazing tamariki, whānau, and kaiako of Tamatea Kindergarten. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and it has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to be part of the teaching team, supporting the learning and growth of your precious taonga.

As my teaching and learning journey now takes me to Greenmeadows Kindergarten, where I will continue to grow and further develop my leadership skills, I wish you all the very best for the future.

Thank you for the many special moments, the laughter, and the connections we have shared. Tamatea Kindergarten will always hold a special place in my heart.

Aroha nui,
Kristi

Step back in time with us- Here's a sneak peak at our Art Deco celebrations for 2026 at Tamatea Kindergarten! We brought the glitz and glamour by dressing in style, invited in our whānau for a shared morning tea of pikelets, scones, jam and cream, and revived some games of yester year. A huge ngā mihi to all our whanau who were able to join us, and to the Paterson whānau for so generously sharing their homemade pikelets with us for morning tea. Your kindness and thoughtfulness made our day extra special.

This afternoon we were so lucky to have a spontaneous visit from the lovely Susan from St Johns. She arrived in her special uniform and armed with a wealth of knowledge and equipment to share with us. All the Tamariki were invited to the mat, where Susan introduced herself, and the most important role that she serves out in the community. She showed us pictures of her Ambulance and then asked for a group of helpers to come up the front, where she dressed them in her hat, her vest, and her stethoscope. She explained the purpose of each item and then showed us how to use a bandage and a pad to stop a bleed. Next, we were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to practice using a bandage on ourselves and our friends. Susan had such a wonderful way of sharing her knowledge, and referred to her bandage as Gary the snail, and her pad as Sponge Bob. Next, she invited teacher Jenny up the front to be a patient and talked through the process of what to do if we find someone unresponsive on the floor. 3 of our Tamariki then helped Susan act out what we had just learnt and put Jenny safely into the side stable position. Lastly, Susan read us a story that supported what we had just learnt. Thank you so much Susan, we all had so much fun, while we added to our kite of knowledge.
