We may fear the stage, but we grow because we step onto it.

Antithesis was our Word of the Day at our last Napier Toastmasters meeting, and the word itself gave us plenty to think about.
Members were challenged to weave the word into their speaking throughout the evening. Small challenges like this are a regular part of Toastmasters, adding an extra layer of fun and focus to each meeting.

We enjoyed four prepared speeches covering a wide range of topics, from planning and commitment to eating doughnuts and a family holiday in Croatia. It was a great reminder that every Toastmasters meeting brings something different.

Out Table Topics Master, Bablin, led an engaging session around books, giving members and guests the chance to practise spontaneous speaking in a supportive environment.

It was also great to see newer members taking on meeting roles and contributing to the evening. Toastmasters is all about learning by doing, and every role helps build confidence, communication and leadership skills.
Congratulations to our award recipients:

Confidence is built in small moments.

It might be saying yes to a meeting role, sharing an idea, answering a question, or simply turning up and giving something a go.

We do not need to wait until we feel completely ready. Often, confidence grows because we take the first step.

At Napier Toastmasters, members practise speaking, listening, leadership and feedback in a friendly and supportive environment. Everyone starts somewhere, and every small step counts.

Napier Toastmasters meets tonight.

Time: 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm
Venue: Greenmeadows East Community Hall, 83 Tait Drive, Greenmeadows, Napier

Mentoring or Coaching? For the past year one of our members, Jacqui, has been hosting Napier Toastmasters on Radio Hawke’s Bay. Each month Jacqui has explored different aspects of what happens at Toastmasters, chatted with members, with some accepting the challenge to deliver a speech on air, or deliver their own podcasts.

In this programme Jacqui asks the question Who Am I? as an insight into mentoring versus coaching with the opportunity for listeners to reflect about their own roles in life.

After a series of 12 programmes for Napier Toastmasters, this is the final one (for now). Our thanks to Jacqui for her commitment and to Radio Hawke’s Bay for their sponsorship. Please support them by listening to community radio.

Jacqui says being on-air is a little addictive and she’ll be back with a new podcast titled Ripples and Reflections.

Do you have a small business you’d like to promote on-air? Are you a volunteer seeking confidence when speaking to groups? Would you love to be a workshop facilitator? How would Toastmasters be a fit for your personal development?

Jacqui chats to Toastmaster members who share why they joined, what they seek to achieve.

Have you ever watched geese flying together in formation?

They do not fly alone. They move together, support each other, and take turns leading from the front. When one gets tired, another steps forward.

It is a simple reminder that growth is easier when we are supported by others.

At Toastmasters, we do not learn alone. We speak, listen, evaluate, encourage, and grow together. Every meeting works because members take on different roles and support one another.

This week, think about teamwork.

Who supports your growth?
Who can you encourage?
Where can you step forward and contribute?

Napier Toastmasters is a friendly place to practise communication, leadership, and teamwork.

Guests are always welcome.

What a colourful and inspiring evening at Napier Toastmasters this week.

Our Table Topics Master, Carmi, took us into the wonderful world of Resene colours. Each participant was given a colour and challenged to explain why they chose it, sharing one reason, one story and one consequence in a 1 to 2 minute masterpiece. It was a fun way to practise quick thinking, creativity and speaking on the spot.

We also enjoyed a prepared speech from Ian about what geese can teach us about teamwork, reminding us how important support, shared effort and taking turns can be.

Bablin shared a thought-provoking speech, “I Am Not a Girl, I Am Not a Boy, Just Me,” exploring why awareness can be more important than curiosity.

We were also treated to two wonderful Ice Breaker speeches from our newly joined Toastmasters. Glen highlighted confidence, while Peter reminded us how important listening skills are. Their stories encouraged and inspired us all.

Congratulations to our award recipients.

Would you like to feel more confident speaking in front of others?

Napier Toastmasters Club is a friendly and supportive place to practise public speaking, communication, and leadership skills, one step at a time.

You do not need to be an experienced speaker. You are welcome to come along as a guest, observe the meeting, and join in only if you feel comfortable.

Whether you want to improve for work, interviews, study, community roles, or personal confidence, Toastmasters is a great place to start.

What would happen if you gave yourself permission to be a beginner?

So often, we wait until we feel ready.

Ready to speak.
Ready to lead.
Ready to answer a question.
Ready to stand in front of a room.

But confidence does not usually arrive before we begin. More often, it grows because we begin.

This week, challenge yourself to try one small thing that feels slightly outside your comfort zone.

Say yes to a role.
Ask a question.
Share an idea.
Start a conversation.
Stand up and speak, even for a minute.

At Toastmasters, we learn by doing. We practise, we listen, we encourage, and we grow one step at a time.

You do not need to be perfect. You only need to be willing to try.

Napier Toastmasters meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.

Guests are always welcome.
