Ngāi Tahu ki Tauranga Moana is the taurahere rōpū for Ngāi Tahu whānau living in the Tauranga Moana takiwā. Taurahere means a binding rope, and we hold each other and our iwi together across the distance. A rope is strongest when every strand is held, so whether your rope is taut or you are reaching for it again or for the first time, there is a place for you here.

Kia ora e te whānau, arohamai, it's been a while since last post. We are still going ahead with the Hāngi which is now scheduled for term 4. We are just waiting on confirmation that we can have the hāngi kit and I will confirm the date as soon as we have that confirmed.

This morning our amazing middle kapa haka rōpu hosted the Mihi Whakatau for our new students. Well done to Meihana who absolutely rocked it with his whaikōrero. For their first time hosting they did so well. Check out the highlights package from Mrs Stevens. So proud of you all, tūmeke koutou!

HĀNGĪ UPDATE

After much deliberation and communication with experts and schools that have provided a school-wide hāngi, we have decided that we will postpone our hāngi to term 4. This will enable us to have a hāngi expert come and guide us, and we can also borrow the ‘hāngī’ trailer which has all the gear we need to put down a successful hāngī. Unfortunately, due to high demand we are unable to use the hāngī trailer this term. Additionally, postponing to term 4 will allow us to cater for more people and give us more time to prepare.

To celebrate Matariki, we will still put on a kapa haka concert and hau tapu ceremony. We will also provide a ‘Thursday Food Fiesta’ that will include some kai to work in with Matariki. This will work well with our open afternoon where whānau can come and watch the kapa haka groups and visit classrooms.
