Last week, Motu school had an awesome opportunity to visit the Wild Lab Tiaki Taiao in Gisborne. Students done a hike, a study of Kereru and native plants. They learnt about the local ecosystems, the endangered plants and animals and participated in activities to mimic a Kereru, using their senses to find their way back to 'their' tree.
Much to the students delight, the Gisborne Mayor also joined the party!

Students have been busy in the pool working on their swimming. Our juniors have been practicing floating on their backs and basic strokes while our seniors refine their skills.
On Tuesday the juniors competed against other rural schools at Enterprise pools in Gisborne.

Last Friday, Motu students participated in the rural schools triathlon. It is always a pleasure to see the students cheering each other on and supporting the younger ones in their races.
A big thank you to our parent helpers and to Waerenga-O-Kuri School for hosting the event.
Results are as follows,

Harry Newman, 3rd place
Kenneth Maaka, 3rd place

Paparangi Camp 2024

The students had an absolute ball working on their survival skills and bush crafts while on camp last week.
A huge thank you to all those who helped to make it a memorable few days.

What an awesome day the children had yesterday competing at the Ngatapa athletics day! It was so neat to see the children give it their all, cheer each other on and come out with such great results. A bunch of fiercely competitive children we have! Well done Motu!

On Wednesday, Motu students enjoyed planting flaxes along the
embankment in front of St Paul’s church in Motu. Students were eager to get stuck into the job and are all looking forward to seeing the growth over the next few years. A huge thank you to Paul Sparks for taking the time to teach our students something new.
