Rigs for Kids, Sunday 30 August 2026

This years’ fun day is to be held on Sunday 30th August from 8.30am. The event is hosted by the local transport industry to provide children with special needs, a chance to get close to the big rigs they see on the roads.

The invitation is for a child with special needs and a supporting adult to come down to the Cnr Midland and Otaki Streets (the old Rattray’s building) where they will be taken for a ride in a truck, and then returned for a barbeque lunch.

We would like to emphasise that the day is primarily for children with special needs and their immediate families. We would ask you to take this into consideration when organising your family group.

Registration at 8am
Trucks depart 11am

Please Note:
If child is aged 7 or under, bring their car seat or booster seat
One caregiver per child to travel in the truck

Taieri Junior Touch is cancelled today

It looks like the weather has decided there will be no Touch today, our lovely Liv has been to Peter Johnstone Park and there are tree branches across the fields along with the rain and the wind.

Planes have been diverted back to Christchurch because of the strong winds, and the weather is predicted to get worse.

So another hard call this week to cancel junior Touch. We will look at options to try and make up games where we can when the weather improves.
