Methven Preschool Kaiako rocking the odd socks for WDSD

Each year, Down Syndrome International invites everyone across the world to wear odd socks to support World Down Syndrome Day. The date is the 21st day of the 3rd month to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.

Tamariki are joining in the fun... in support of one of our dear wee friends and family wearing odd socks all week!! All donations collected over the week go into the rainbow sock to support the cause.

So it is that time of year again when kaiako and tamariki get a well-deserved break – bring on the Christmas cheer - everyone needs it after what has been another challenging year! However, in spite of this, we have managed an amazing, fun-filled year, and would like to thank our fantastic families/whᾱnau and wider preschool community for your ongoing positive contribution to supporting tamariki learning and development.

This year we said farewell to 18 tamariki to school with 5 more off after at the beginning of Term 1 2022. Lily, Sam, Thea, Storm, Rose, Kaitlyn, Angus, Bruno, Cash, Harper, Zyna, Aurora, Hettie, Greta, Eva, Bella, Tilly, Fraser, Sophie, Harriet, Nixyn, Edi, and Jonty -

"You're off to great places, Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting... so get on your way." We wish you all the very best, remember to work hard but play harder!!

Vacancies have been filled very quickly by new families and those wanting to increase their bookings. At the moment we have an approximate 6-month waiting list so if you have siblings wanting to join in the fun remember to let us know as early as possible so we can try to accommodate you.

We would all like to say a BIG THANK YOU for all the lovely morning tea shouts, baking chocolates, donations etc we have received - these past few weeks - truly overwhelming and very much appreciated.

Fundraising
Our fundraising team has worked very hard this year selling Wine, and beautiful Lily Bulbs, and - calf rearing!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone for their purchases.
You are a fabulous community!

Calves were very kindly donated by Mike and Mags McGarva, Linda Rollinson, Laura Bawden, Brent Hislop, Gethin Owens, Red and Mel Lilley, and Randal & Serena Beswick.

We also want to give special thanks to Philip Wareing Ltd for transporting all calves at no cost - their donation to us!

The team has also taken over the "Ms. Methven" event which though unfortunately postponed due to the Covid restrictions will be held in 2022 (date to be confirmed).

Hopefully, we can start work on refurbishing our verandah next year!!

We look forward to a positive, nga mihi o te tau hou/Happy New Year

Kaiako and tamariki interpretation of the Matariki star cluster scattered through the Harmony Gardens to mark the beginning of the Māori New Year... thank you to our preschool whānau for celebrating with us.

Due to the declaration of a State of Emergency in the Ashburton District, the current severe weather conditions, and in line with local area schools, Methven Preschool will be closed tomorrow Monday 31st May 2021. We will review the situation tomorrow afternoon, and update families/whanau through our families page, and on story park. Hopefully, you can stay off the roads at home, warm, dry and safe. Kia kaha

We are sure you will all agree that 2020 is a year we will never forget… it certainly has had its challenges for each and every one of us. Who knows what the future will bring but rest assured we will rise up and work with whatever it throws at us as we continue to keep safe and stay strong.
We would like to acknowledge our team of passionate early learning kaiako who continued their work online during lockdown with great determination and humour as they navigated online zoom meetings and professional development webinars, and kept in contact with our whanau through story park and facebook.
We all (tamariki, kaiako, families/whanau) deserve a well-earned break – bring on the Christmas cheer!
We want send a big shout-out and warm fuzzies to all of our families/whᾱnau for the support you have given us throughout the year – we could not get by without your contribution as parent helpers, working bee enthusiasts, contributions to fundraising, and for generally being awesome!
We want to bid a last adieu to our ‘big kids’:
This year we have said farewell to 36 tamariki as they transitioned to school. We hope Florence, Reign, Rosa, Jade, Althea, Willa. Harriet, Elisia, Haven, Alissa, Annabelle P, Hugh, Lucy, Beau, Annabelle, Bernie, Dottie, Tama, Wade, Eloise, Fynn, Marlow, Angus, Luke, Tessa, Mani, Pierce, Jamie, Dudley have been enjoying their school days, and wish Finnegan, Blake, Oliver B, Josie, Zealah, Sophia, and George all the very best when they start in the new year – Remember to ‘work hard but PLAY harder!!’
And last but not least we want to say a big thank you for all the lovely treats we have received - we have been overwhelmed with your kindness – and the very exquisite and talented baking treats, chocolates and refreshments etc mwah…thank you 😘😘
We wish you all the very best for the festive season – Meri Kirihimete ki a koutou!
Enjoy being with your families/whanau and have a safe and happy holiday.
See you in 2021 xoxox

Kia ora koutou
We hope you are all keeping safe and well in your bubbles as we move back into Alert Level 3 on Tuesday 29th April, 2020.
In consultation with our preschool board and family/whanau community Methven Preschool will remain closed at Alert Level 3.
This decision will be reassessed after the next Government announcement on 11th May 2020.
This means all our preschool community – tamariki, parents/whānau, and kaiako can remain safe in their bubbles for a little while longer.
We thank you all for your continued support at this difficult time - remember our families/whanau can join us on our families page and on story park so you can keep contact with us all - we are in this together - He waka eke noa!
We are only a phone call away -

Kia kaha – Noho ora mai
