Kia ora koutou e te whānau. This week kaiako brought out our new "Team walker' flat stilts to extend the group's interest in challenging themselves physically. They were a huge hit with many children lining up to give them a go. Once they got used to the feel of using them, tamariki were able to challenge themselves further by joining them together. Tamariki also found new and inventive ways to use our new balls. A fun game was created spontaneously among a group of children around passing the balls around the empty water trough without them bouncing out.
We have had some awesome group play in the sandpit this week. Tamariki asked for kaiako to provide water so they could make a river. It is great to see them taking agency over their own learning. There was some great discussion amongst the group, sharing their ideas around the direction the river would take as they worked hard to dig the channel. They also shared their experiences of visiting local rivers and beaches. It is lovely to hear tamariki making connections around their community and landmarks around them.

Kia Ora e te whaanau, this week nga tamariki have enjoyed exploring with our new physical equipment which include balls, soccer nets, netball net, a plastic tunnel, a new spinner, hula hoops and gym mats. We purchased these with a generous grant from Masterton Trust lands Trust which we are most appreciative of. The children were eager to try them all out and lots of fun was had by all. Have a great weekend everyone. Ka kite.

Ngā mihi nui to our whānau helpers. We had a great time at gozone today, we wouldn't be able to do trips like this without your support so we really appreciate it.

Ngā tamariki had fun with their friends and enjoyed challenging themselves physically while building their confidence to try new things.

We're sure they will all sleep well tonight!

Kia ora koutou e te whānau. This week the winter chill has transformed our playground into a winter wonderland. Tamariki have been really excited to arrive at kindy to find ice everywhere! Our water trough has often had a sheet of ice covering the bottom which has provided awesome learning opportunities. Tamariki have discussed and tested out their theories around ice, such as how to break it, how the ice was formed and why it sounds and looks like glass when it is dropped on the ground. A fun, authentic and meaningful way for them to make sense of the natural world around them.

Kia ora e te whānau
Tamariki returned with enthusiasm this week and were eager to share their knowledge and skills about how to create secret base rooms at kindergarten. Tamariki confidently shared how they had spent time creating these rooms at home during the break and were keen to share these with their peers and revisit this play back at kindergarten. Tamariki independently sourced the resources they would need to create and design this space and worked well collectively and collaboratively to ensure the space met everyone's expectations and approval. We value children's input into leading their own learning and to make connections and share knowledge with things from home and the wider outside world.

Kia ora koutou e te whānau. Check out the awesome fun that was had during our Matariki celebrations this week. Thank you to everyone who donated vegetables for our soup and bread rolls for our kai. Another huge thank you to our whānau who braved the cold evening to come and support our special night. Matariki is a time to reflect on the past and those who have passed, to celebrate the present with kai and time with our whānau and communities, and to look ahead and plan for the future. Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori. Greetings for Matariki, the `Māori New Year.
