Masterton West Kindergarten

Masterton West Kindergarten High Quality Early Childhood Education We are very lucky to have a huge outdoor environment and we make the most of it in every way.

We have a large vegetable garden, a beautiful bee garden, more than enough fruit trees, a berry garden, annually an excess of giant sunflowers. We emphasise learning opportunities involving hands-on exploration with the natural kindergarten environment. The teaching team at Masterton West are committed to a philosophy of holistic teaching and learning, manaakitanga and whanaungatanga. We strongly

advocate respect and understanding of others similarities and differences, encouraging children to be socially competent and able to initiate and sustain relationships.

A big thank you to Willow, her mum Hailey and big brothers Ollie and Arlo for bringing in their pet lambs called Luna, Rosie and Teddy for us to interact with and feed. It was a real treat to see them up close as we patted and talked with them.

Here at Masterton West, we support individual, focused play as it encourages so much valuable learning for our tamariki . As children immerse themselves in all our activities, whether it's constructing elaborate block towers, painting vivid pictures, or exploring in the sandpit, they're building key cognitive skills such as problem-solving, concentration, and spatial awareness. This kind of play encourages independence and self-regulation, as children learn to make choices, and persist through challenges. It also fosters creativity and personal choice, allowing each child to explore their interests at their own pace. In these quiet moments of engagement, our tamariki are laying the foundations for lifelong learning, developing confidence, and curiosity through this focussed engagement in our stimulating environment

Our tamariki love the outdoor environment here at West! 🌳
The outdoors provide our tamariki with so many opportunities to play, explore, and learn. Whether they're climbing, jumping, kicking balls, enjoying sensory play, exploring nature, or digging in the sandpit, there's always something new to discover.
As they play, our tamariki demonstrate manaakitanga (kindness) by caring for one another, whanaungatanga (relationships) by working and playing together, and kaitiakitanga (guardianship) by respecting and caring for the natural world.
Outdoor play is where curiosity, confidence, and plenty of fun come together! 💫

Its been a great busy week at kindy. With the wet weather keeping us indoors at the beginning of the week, our tamariki have been very engaged and involved with a lot of focused play. From creative construction, puzzles to imaginative role-play our indoor area was buzzing with learning.
A highlight of the week was welcoming some of our friends from Douglas Park School. It was so special to reconnect with some of our past students and watch our current tamariki interacting with them.

What a fantastic start to Term 3! ❄️☀️
We've had a wonderful week settling back into our routines, welcoming new faces, building new friendships and strengthening connections within our kindergarten community. It's been lovely to see everyone reconnecting after the holidays and embracing all the learning opportunities that each day brings.
The crisp, frosty mornings have made way for beautiful sunny days, giving us plenty of opportunities to get outside, explore, play and enjoy the winter sunshine together. We’re looking forward to another exciting term filled with learning, laughter, curiosity and plenty of new adventures!

We’ve had a busy week celebrating Matariki with our Kindy whanau.
We started by making soup for our whanau - a big thank you to everyone that donated vegetables, with the help of our tamariki and kaiako, we created yummy soup that was shared with all. Throughout the week, our tamariki have been learning waiata and using poi, in preparation for our special Matariki concert. It was great to see such a wonderful turnout from whanau who came to support their tamariki and celebrate this special time with us.
Matariki is a time to reflect, connect and to look forward to- we feel so grateful to have shared our celebrations with our Kindergarten community.

🌟 Matariki at Kindy 🌟
Kia ora whānau, This week at kindy we have continued our learning about Matariki and the rising of the Matariki star cluster ✨ Ngā tamariki have been exploring this special time through sharing meaningful stories and books, singing waiata, participating in cooking experiences, creating artwork and enjoyed a special Matariki music session with Miss Nadia. It has been wonderful to see how engaged and excited the tamariki are. They recognise this as a special time of year and are really looking forward to our celebration. There is a strong sense of connection as we learn about the stars together and what it means to come together as a community 🌌
We can’t wait to see our whānau next Thursday 2nd June at 12pm to celebrate Matariki. We will begin with a mini concert followed by yummy soup for our whānau to enjoy and pizza for nga tamariki.
Stay warm and safe this weekend 🌧️

What an incredible day at our sausage sizzle fundraiser! We are so grateful for the support, generosity, and community spirit that helped us reach our fundraising goal 🧡🧡

A special thank you to Mitre 10 MEGA Masterton for allowing us to use their BBQ facilities, and to the wonderful Nicole and Aaron for their amazing support throughout the day ⭐️

A huge shout-out to Teletronics Masterton, whose sponsorship helped make this event possible. We are so fortunate to have such an awesome local business supporting our community. Be sure to check out their page and show them some love!

Thank you also to Walter Findlay Ltd for their donation of bread. Your support was greatly appreciated.

To our fantastic volunteer team – Shontae, Katie, Nyssa, Katherine, Nicole, Shannon, Tom, Willow, and Rebecca – thank you for your hard work, enthusiasm, and teamwork. From serving customers to keeping everything running smoothly on the BBQ, you were absolutely amazing. What a team! 👏👏
Finally, thank you to our kindy families, friends, and the wider public who came along to support us. Every sausage purchased helped make a difference.
Because of your generosity, we reached our fundraising goal and will now be able to provide even more wonderful music and movement experiences for our tamariki at kindy. We can't wait to see the joy and learning these opportunities will bring.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping make this fundraiser such a success! ❤️🎶✨
