♟️ Five of our tamariki headed along to the Regional Chess Power tournament at Rathkeale today, and what a day it was! Our intermediate team took out 1st place and have earned another invitation to the finals in October! 🎉

Huge credit to our two Year 5/6 players, Jonty and Dexter, who played up a level at Year 7/8 and held their own brilliantly. Jonty flew the flag, placing an outstanding 3rd overall in the entire event!

Alongside them, our Year 7/8 players Vinnie, Monty and Ben brought the skill and experience needed to seal the win. The mana these tamariki carried onto that board was something special, we are so grateful to see them shine!

None of this would have been possible without Matua Blake for organising the team, and Dan Broughton for handling all the parent logistics, it couldn't have happened without you!

📚 Just a reminder that Monday 24th August is a Teacher Only Day.

Our kaiako will be spending the day in professional learning focused on the new maths curriculum, strengthening how we teach and support your tamariki in the classroom. There will be no school for students on this day, normal classes resume Tuesday 25th August.

Thanks for your understanding and support as we continue to grow as a teaching team!

Matharapa Success – Back-to-Back Champions & Top Wairarapa Finishes

🥇 Year 5 & 6 – 1st Place: Jonty, Rory & Dexter were crowned Wairarapa South Champions for the second year running!
🌟 Individual Top Score: Dexter also achieved equal 1st place overall, recording one of the highest individual scores of the competition.
🏅 Year 8 – 4th Place: Lillith, Monty & Vinnie achieved an outstanding 4th place across the Wairarapa, despite late team changes due to winter illness.
💚 Proud Carterton School Moment: Fantastic maths, teamwork and resilience from both teams, with their manaakitanga shining through as they celebrated the success of others as well as their own.
