Reminder for this Thursday 3rd September in the lead up to Fathers Day, we are having a Dress Up day to celebrate those who are special to our tamariki. Your child can choose to dress up as anyone special including dad, uncle, grandparent, mum, older sibling, pet, community helper (policeman, nurse etc..) anyone they feel is special to them. Bust out those tiny work clothes, uniform, active wear anything they like 😊

At Pūrātā Kindergarten, every day is filled with opportunities for tamariki to learn, grow, explore, and build meaningful relationships. Through play and shared experiences, children strengthen friendships, develop new skills, and discover more about themselves and the world around them.
We love seeing our tamariki become caring and capable friends, helping others through challenges, checking in on those who are upset, solving problems together, and including others in their play. These everyday moments reflect our philosophy in action through manaakitanga (positive interactions, nurturing wellbeing and belonging) and ako (teaching and learning together).

This week, our tamariki have continued exploring their interest in working with wood, both at the carpentry table and through imaginative play, creating campfires and gathering with friends to "toast" marshmallows.
What better way to support and extend this interest than providing a real campfire experience where tamariki safely enjoyed roasting marshmallows together. This authentic experience helped bring their play to life and encouraged meaningful conversations, curiosity, and discovery.
By providing resources, opportunities, and experiences that build on children's interests, we nurture creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and confidence. It's wonderful to see tamariki leading their own learning and making connections between their ideas, play, and the world around them.

Low numbers due to sickness meant some chill days, new connections and shared experiences for our ākonga this past week! We even had a couple of teeny lambs come for a visit. We hope our whānau are feeling better and look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! 🌻🐑🌦️

This week we continue to see lots of exploration driven by curiosity throughout the environment. Whether experimenting with magnets, complex and innovative construction, or discovering how their bodies move and balance on the yoga balls, tamariki are actively developing their own working theories about the physical world. Through this hands-on investigation they are developing important learning dispositions like being curious, persistence, spatial awareness and problem-solving. We enjoyed hot chocolates and toast, cafè style ☕️ and also experimented with water, putiputi and dye with the chilly frost we had overnight Thursday 🌸❄️ which was a fun extension of the exploration with frost we have had recently!
Have a great weekend, whānau ☀️

This week tamariki shared their curiosity through play. Making sense of their world through exploration, searching for answers with peers, engaging in opportunities promoting shared understandings through communication of ideas, and more. Our tamariki love to ‘wonder out loud’ together with kaiako – sharing open-ended questions and working out the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of the places and things around us. Most of all, they have FUN! 🎨🦖

For our whānau, reminder that we will be having a Toy Day tomorrow Weds 29th July. Tamariki can bring a toy to talk about and share with their peers. A great way to foster communication and connections between home, kindergarten, and peers 🙂

This week we celebrated birthdays and Happy Last Days for some of our friends, including our teacher friend Payton. We explored the gardens and forest, hunting for bugs. We shared in the joy of new resources and new friends, and even shared some quiet story telling with kai. A collaborative, manaakitanga filled environment where our ākonga are able to enjoy the company of their friends and peers, showing kindness and caring for each other along the way! Welcome to week 1, term 3 💚🪱🦋
