The Messengers 100 x 100 cm, oil

This artwork explores the universal Law of Polarity and Duality—the delicate balance between light and dark, mind and body, and the necessity of embracing sadness to truly understand happiness. The opposing cliffs mirror the profound thresholds of life: the conscious and unconscious, fear and faith, the known and the unknown. They stand as a liminal space, capturing the tension between two opposing truths and the internal bridges we must build to cross them. Within this divide, a shamanic figure acts as a spiritual mediator and healer, anchoring the physical realm. Above, three ascending kōtuku (white herons) soar as quiet messengers between the earthly and the divine, embodying patience, grace, and spiritual purity.
