Rangitāne o Wairarapa is looking for a Pou Matua, Oranga to provide leadership across our Ohu Whānau services in Masterton.
This is a key leadership role responsible for guiding and supporting a team of kaimahi delivering services to whānau across Wairarapa. You’ll provide strong day to day leadership, make sure priorities are clear, keep programmes and contracts on track, and create an environment where kaimahi are supported to do their best mahi.
But this role is about more than managing services.

We want a leader who can see the whole whānau, encourage teams to work together rather than in isolation, and look for practical and innovative solutions when existing approaches aren't working.

You’ll be comfortable moving between people, practice and performance, supporting a kaimahi one moment, working through a complex service issue the next, reviewing programme performance, building relationships with partners, and making sure our commitments to whānau are being delivered.

You’ll bring:
• Strong, values based leadership and the ability to bring out the best in people
• Experience leading whānau centred services, teams or programmes
• The ability to coordinate multiple services and keep delivery moving
• Confidence using information, reporting and performance measures to identify what is working and what needs to change
• A practical, solution focused approach to complex challenges
• Strong relationships with whānau, kaimahi, agencies and community partners
• The confidence to challenge, improve and innovate rather than simply maintain the status quo
• A strong understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga Māori and whānau centred practice
• The ability to confidently give effect to the values and kaupapa of Rangitāne o Wairarapa.

We’re interested in leadership capability as much as where you gained it. A relevant qualification in social services, community development or a related area is welcomed, but equivalent experience will also be considered.

Pou Ārahi Taiohi
Are you passionate about helping rangatahi recognise their strengths, overcome barriers and create positive pathways for their future?

Rangitāne o Wairarapa is looking for a Pou Ārahi Taiohi to join our Te Māpu Ārahi Taiohi Ohu in Masterton.

This is a hands on role working one-to-one with rangatahi and their whānau. You’ll build trusted relationships, walk alongside rangatahi through challenges, connect them with the right support and opportunities, and help them take positive steps towards their goals.

A key focus of this role is supporting wāhine taiohi. We are looking for someone who has the ability to connect meaningfully with young wāhine, build trust, create safe and mana-enhancing relationships, and support them through what can sometimes be complex and sensitive situations.

We’re looking for someone who can relate to rangatahi, build trust and get alongside whānau. You might come from youth work, social services, education, hauora or community development, or you may have gained your skills through practical experience working with rangatahi and whānau.

You’ll bring:
• A genuine passion for rangatahi and whānau
• The ability to build strong, mana enhancing relationships, particularly with wāhine taiohi
• Great communication and people skills
• A practical, strengths based approach
• Sound judgement, reliability and professional boundaries
• An understanding of, or willingness to grow within, te ao Māori and tikanga Māori
• A full NZ Driver Licence
A formal qualification is welcomed, but relevant experience matters too.

Pou Awhiawhi Whānau
Are you someone who can connect with people, build trust and walk alongside whānau when they need support?

Rangitāne o Wairarapa is looking for a Pou Awhiawhi Whānau to join our Whānau Tiaki Ohu in Masterton.

This is a hands on, whānau centred role supporting individuals and whānau to identify their strengths, navigate challenges and work towards positive and sustainable change. You’ll manage a caseload, develop whānau plans, connect people with the right services and support, and advocate alongside whānau when needed.

A key focus of this role will be engaging and supporting tāne. We are looking for someone who can connect meaningfully with tāne, build genuine trust and create safe, respectful and mana enhancing relationships, including when navigating complex, personal or challenging circumstances.
You’ll be someone who can meet whānau where they are, listen without judgement and help turn kōrero into practical action.

You might come from social services, youth work, hauora, community development, education or a related field, or you may have gained your skills through lived and practical experience working alongside whānau and communities.

You’ll bring:
• A genuine commitment to supporting whānau
• The ability to build trusted, mana enhancing relationships, particularly with tāne
• Strong communication and people skills
• A practical, strengths based approach
• Confidence working alongside other services, agencies and community organisations
• Sound judgement, professional boundaries and reliability
• An understanding of, or willingness to grow within, te ao Māori and tikanga Māori
• A full NZ Driver Licence

Kia ora
We are currently running the Wairarapa Weather Isolation & Infrastructure Impact Survey, an independently initiated community survey looking at the cumulative effects of the repeated severe weather events experienced across the Wairarapa during 2026.

The survey began after repeated periods of isolation around Lake Ferry and the South Wairarapa coast, but it has since broadened to capture experiences from communities across the wider Wairarapa.

It asks about impacts including road and bridge closures, isolation, additional travel, loss of work or income, farming, business and tourism, commercial fishing, health and essential access, communication, household preparedness and wider infrastructure concerns.

The purpose is not to point fingers or promote a predetermined outcome. It is to gather people’s lived experiences, identify patterns and build a meaningful body of evidence that may be useful to local iwi and tangata whenua, councils, emergency management, roading agencies, rural organisations, businesses and others involved in future resilience, infrastructure and emergency-planning decisions.

As the survey grows, it is important to us that the eventual information does not only reflect the voices of the communities and networks we can personally reach. We would particularly like to ensure that whānau, hapū and tangata whenua across Wairarapa have the same opportunity to contribute their experiences, including impacts on access, isolation, whānau wellbeing, livelihoods, preparedness and the environment.

Once the survey closes and the information has been analysed, We would also be very happy to make the resulting data and findings.

We are simply seeking assistance with broad distribution so that the final information reflects as wide a range of Wairarapa experiences as possible.
