Nga Tawa School

Nga Tawa School Nga Tawa is an all girls secondary boarding and day school located in Marton, New Zealand.

Nga Tawa Diocesan School was founded in 1891 on a principle of empowering girls to achieve extraordinary outcomes in their lives beyond school. As an all-girls school, Nga Tawa offers a culture and environment in which girls can be girls, grow up at their own pace, and have the freedom to be who they want to be. Being a small school is one of our great strengths because it allows us to guide each

of our girls as they make the transformation into young adults. Small class sizes mean students can develop strong relationships with teachers and teachers can be more responsive to the needs of individuals. Itโ€™s all part of a complete education experience that has again put Nga Tawa in the top tier of NCEA achievement. In 2021, our girls achieved a 100% pass rate at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. 97% of those year 13 students achieved University Entrance. Nga Tawa is a diverse school attracting students from across New Zealand and around the world.

Our Cross Country Squad has returned from the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships in Upper Hutt, where athletes battled fierce competition, strong winds and extremely muddy conditions.

The girls produced some outstanding results! Our Year 9 six-person team brought home a bronze medal ๐Ÿฅ‰, while the Senior Girls placed fourth and the Junior Girls sixth. In the three-person events, the Year 9s finished eighth, the Junior Girls 12th and the Senior Girls seventh.

Brooke Duffy was our top Junior Girls performer, placing 22nd individually, while Madi Honeyfield led the Senior Girls, finishing 44th. Mila Knox was our top-performing Year 9 student, placing 36th.

In the girls' races across the Manawatลซ/Whanganui regions, Nga Tawa was the top-performing school. We are immensely proud of our runners, particularly as they are beginning to lead the way in the Manawatลซ/Whanganui region and are doing so consistently, passionately and effectively.

Congratulations to all of our athletes on an outstanding competition. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽถ Our girls did a fantastic job at Big Sing and had a wonderful time performing alongside choirs from across the region. We are so proud of the way they represented Nga Tawa and all the hard work and commitment they have shown.

A huge thank you to Robert Tucker for his outstanding direction and support. The girls have greatly valued his guidance, and his expertise and encouragement have helped them grow so much as singers and performers.

Big Sing results are not announced on the night, so we are now eagerly awaiting the outcome. Whatever the result, we couldn't be prouder of this special group of young women. ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ’™

A group of our Year 11 Ag students travelled to Fieldays at Mystery Creek in Hamilton last week, where they enjoyed a fantastic day exploring the latest innovations, technologies, and career opportunities within the agricultural sector. Throughout the day, the girls spoke with industry experts, visited a wide range of exhibits, and gained valuable insights into the future of farming in New Zealand.

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› What an incredible Junior Pent week for Nga Tawa! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

We are immensely proud of our girls, who achieved our highest overall placing in close to a decade, finishing an outstanding third overall. The week was filled with determination, teamwork and plenty of Nga Tawa spirit.

A special congratulations to our netball team for their fantastic second-place finish, and to our hockey and football players who embraced the challenge of competing in composite teams with courage and enthusiasm. Many girls stepped outside their comfort zones and even tried new codes.

Well done, girls!

We are delighted to share that two of our students, Annabelle Hillas and Ingrid Tucker, have their artwork on display at Square Edge in Palmerston North as part of a youth exhibition. This is a wonderful achievement and a fantastic opportunity for the girls to showcase their creativity and talent to the wider community.

Today we held another successful Open Day and were delighted to welcome so many families to experience what a day at Nga Tawa is like. It was fantastic to see so many prospective students and their whฤnau exploring our school, meeting our staff and students, and getting a glimpse of Nga Tawa life.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today. We hope to welcome many of you back in the future.

If you would like to experience the Nga Tawa difference for yourself, come along to our next Open Day on Friday 14 August. We would love to see you there!

Congratulations to Ashleigh Wier on representing New Zealand at the Queensland State Championships as a Level 8 Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) athlete.

Ashleigh recently travelled to Queensland as part of the New Zealand team. Despite competing with a fractured toe, she was able to take part in the competition, gaining valuable experience competing internationally and against athletes much older than her in the Steps programme.

Ashleigh enjoyed the experience and is now determined to work hard towards qualifying at Nationals later this year for future touring opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of Ashleigh and all she has achieved. Congratulations on this special milestone.

A huge well done to Izzy Joines, our sole entry in this yearโ€™s Smokefree Rockquest competition. Izzy performed her original song, โ€˜Take the Roadโ€™, with confidence and poise, capturing the crowd from the very beginning.
