Welcome to our village! We're a small, friendly Playcentre in Papatoetoe, focused on child led play.

We are a licensed early childhood education centre running mixed-age sessions for 0 – 6 years. We offer pre-schoolers a play-centred education, surrounded by adults and children with whom they have friendly, responsive relationships. Playcentre follows the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki. Recognised and funded by the Ministry of Education, it differs from other early childhood p

roviders as it values and affirms parents as the first and best educators of their children. This creates the strong whanau atmosphere Playcentre is known for, allowing meaningful bonds to form between all the parent members and children, while the mixed age range allows children to learn from one another.

🎉 Term 3 is here! 🎉

A huge welcome back to all our families!

The highlight of the first week has definitely been our new playground, which is now open! Even though it was absolutely freezing today, the children couldn't wait to get outside. The swings and monkey bars have been a big favourite already, along with plenty of energetic games of tag.

We’re looking forward to another term full of fun, friendship, and learning. Bring on Term 3!

Dress-Up Day at Playcentre!

To celebrate the end of Term 1, we’re having a Dress-Up Day at Playcentre on Thursday and we can’t wait to see everyone’s creativity!

Come dressed as your favourite character from home — whether that’s a superhero, princess, animal, builder, or something completely unique. If you don’t have something at home, don’t worry! You can hunt through the Playcentre dress-up wardrobe and create a character when you arrive.

We’ll also be having a shared lunch, so please bring a plate to share.

Get ready to roll up your sleeves, kick off the good clothes, and dive into a week of gloriously messy fun!

At Papatoetoe Playcentre, we’re celebrating Messy Week – where paint splatters are welcome, mud pies are masterpieces, and curiosity leads the way. 🌈🌿 From goopy sensory play to creative art explosions, your tamariki will have the freedom to explore, experiment, and get wonderfully messy in a safe and supportive environment.

Messy play isn’t just fun (although it definitely is! 😄) – it helps build creativity, confidence, fine motor skills, and problem-solving abilities. Plus, it’s a fantastic way for whānau to connect and play alongside their children.

Today we had a very special visitor… Harold the Giraffe from the Life Education Trust! 🦒💛

Harold taught our tamariki all about bucket filling – how our words and actions can fill other people’s love buckets and help everyone feel happy, valued and cared for. We talked about kindness, friendship and the power of doing small things to make a big difference.

Of course, there was plenty of dancing and laughter too! 💃🕺 The children were so excited to meet Harold in person, and everyone had the chance to give him a big hug and snap a photo with him.

Ask your child tonight how they can be a bucket filler at home – we’d love to hear the kind ideas they come up with! 💙✨
