* The Samoan greeting.
It was a week full of Samoan Language. So enriching and so encouraging for our tamaiti/children.

Our children stood tall and bold as they had the privilege to stand with the Chief To’oto’o and wearing the ula. Our lovely Samoan student teacher generously lent her family cultural items to enrich our children’s learning.
Faafetai Na’i.

During Samoan Language Week our tamaiti (children) has the opportunity to make a Samoan drink called “Poi”. Our aulelei faiaoga (beautiful teacher) Na’i had provided this learning opportunity using banana, coconut cream, lemon juice and some ice. Our children also had the hands on opportunity to peel, mash and stir the poi.
During Lunch time, our children explored the taste of Samoa with a cup of poi. Great work everyone.
Thank you Na’i for sharing your Samoan culture.

(Late post) As this years theme for Samoan Language Week was “From the high mountains are the blessings of the village” it is a great proverb that relates to the relationship of our parents and children. In this activity it highlights the theme as our parents are “the high mountains” (a metaphor) and the children are “the village” who are blessed from their parents (knowledge, care, guidance).
Faafetai lava matua mo le tou lagolagoina ole aoaoina ole fanau. Thank you parents for your support in the children’s learning.

As part of our Samoan Language
Week celebrations, Neville proudly brought a traditional Samoan wraparound skirt (lava-lava) from home to share with his friends. He showed the tamariki how it is worn and talked about its importance in Samoan culture. The children were curious and enjoyed learning about Neville's cultural heritage through this special sharing . Children developed an appreciation for cultural diversity, strengthened their sense of belonging, and learned to respect and celebrate different traditions.
