I was a PC and Microsoft girl through and through.

Then I worked here, and no-one was using PC.

This job grew my innovation and creativity but deepened my passion for serving people, and helping them realise their awesomeness.

I’m not sure what business this kid from Ōtara thought she had in Norway.

But she took her stories from South Auckland to Lillehammer, Norway to the International Digital Storytelling Conference and presented her kaupapa to an international audience.

I aspired to be a receptionist or secretary.

I learned shorthand and typewriting and later word processing with Mrs Seccombe at Papatoetoe High.

I got a job in the telecom building in Manukau and just didn’t love it, so after two weeks I did a gig as a nanny for my friends family, and then went back to the centre.

All skills are transferable. My typing, word processing (not so much shorthand 😂 unless my sister and I want to write notes in secret) still help me out today.

In 1996, I left 3 Guys for a job in an early childhood centre, I moved from $5.55 an hour to $7.25 an hour! What a bonus and I didn’t have to work weekends, even better.

The director here changed the trajectory of my life. She encouraged me to study, I left school with no formal qualifications and so had to do a family day care certificate to even consider getting into Uni.

I’m an advocate for education, because education got me out of poverty. Education isn’t just Uni though, let me geek out for a moment 🤓📚⬇️
