Kiddy Winks Kindergarten

Our children love playing with water around the sandpit. They have been practicing taking turns filling their water containers and pouring them out. They're getting a feel for the difference in weight of full vs empty containers, how much weight they can comfortably carry and how the weight moves as you tip to pour.

Our tamariki have been getting busy with nature based loose parts play. Loose parts play helps children develop their creativity and it is delightful to see what they can produce from seemingly random items. Here at Kiddy Winks we love getting out into our environment and using nature based loose parts gives tamariki the opportunity to explore the colours and textures of nature.

Abby has been in again to help our tamariki learn about how to use our bins correctly. We are kaitiaki for this beautiful world our Lord has made for us and our tamariki love to take the initiative to keep New Zealand beautiful.

Last week was Samoan Language week. We were very blessed to have a parent come in to cook some Samoan food for us, it was Delicious! The children also made paper & straw lei and painted traditional patterns with stencils. These crafts help the children to practice their hand-eye co-ordination and spatial planning.

Our tamariki have been out enjoying the sandpit. While they play they're learning about the properties of the world around us as well as practicing how to relate to others and work together to achieve a goal.

Last week we welcomed Abby from the Beautification Trust to talk to us about waste and bins. God has tasked us to be caretakers of his creation and one easy way we can do this to is to put the right rubbish in the right bin! Abby was full of great information and our children were excited to take what they learned home to their parents.

Over the last two weeks, we have been looking at the story of David and Jonathan. Jonathan was an excellent friend to David and we have been talking about how we can be good friends for each other and how we like to play together.

On Friday we invited the people who take the role of Mother in the lives of our tamariki to Kindy for a celebration. We hope they all felt the love and appreciation of their children.
