Te Ara Tatai Pokapū- Alternative Education Our mission is to create a vibrant space that captivates youth aged 13-16, encouraging them to engage more meaningfully in education.

We aim to help young people develop essential life skills, build confidence, and discover their potential. Te Ara Tatai Pokapu, a youth center dedicated to supporting young people in South Auckland through online learning and alternative educational programmes. Some of the programs we offer include:

Cooking Classes: These classes provide youth with valuable culinary skills, while also teaching th

em about nutrition, teamwork, and responsibility. Boxing Training: We have gym facilities on-site where our young people are involved in boxing, a program that promotes discipline, physical fitness, and self-defense. Swim Safety and Bushcraft: We offer activities such as swim safety and bushcraft, giving youth a chance to engage in outdoor adventure and survival skills. Diving and Fishing: These activities cater to different interests, allowing young people to explore new experiences while developing new skills. Our programs are designed to ensure that every young person can find something they are passionate about, which helps keep them engaged and excited about learning.

Our rangatahi have embarked on a transformative journey through the Tripartite Education Program, a faith-based initiative led by Matua Dave. This program delves deep into foundational Christian teachings, fostering spiritual growth and understanding.

Under Matua Dave's guidance, our tamariki are not only gaining knowledge but are also encouraged to live out these principles, embodying their faith in everyday actions.

To celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, the youth of Te Ara Tatai Pokapu came together to prepare a traditional Māori boil up for whānau and friends. This heartfelt gesture not only honored our rich culinary heritage but also showcased the power of te reo Māori in bringing our community together. Following the meal, our youth performed the waiata tautoko Tōku Reo, Tōku Ohooho.

Te Ara Tatai Pōkapu – Alternative Education Hunting Outing
Our rangatahi enjoyed a special experience in the ngahere accompanied by Matua Dave and his trusted hunting dogs. Learning traditional hunting skills and connecting with the whenua. The day was a great success, with two small pigs successfully caught by the youth—an achievement that reflected both teamwork and growing confidence in their skills.
